Those mentioned in my previous post were convinced that the sports facility could be protected DESPITE their being NO planning policies to protect the land for sport.

I offered them a solution that would retain and enhance the land for sport and help the Council purchase the land from the University.

Isn't this something that Sport England should have sorted out, as part of their mission is to protect pitches, particularly in a town where only rugby has adequate facilities?

Sport England has one mission - to preserve Sport England

If the new owners of the sports complex decide to redevelop it Sport England will object. However, they will have a weak argument - no planning policy protection and, I suspect, by the time the application is made the complex will be in a poor state of repair and there will no public access.

The loss of a private, unprotected, underused sports facility is a lot easier to redevelop than a well used, protected, publicly accessible facility.

Prediction; land is redeveloped (only ever so slightly), these new owners become board due to a venture that just hasn't worked out for 'em, they move out, land lies empty for a good while (3 years at a guess), in the mean time the land is maintained and cleaned up at a huge cost to SBC/SCC (ie: us!), housing development buys land, bit of planning application toing and froing (you know the type), housing eventually gets planning, housing development start work where we get to choose from affordble housing starting at £300k, hoorah

Should be about 12 years give or take, mostly take!

I'll be back in 15 years to tell you i told you so!

So, as the timetable suggests, the investors (actually i'll call them owners from here on in), have the keys to the palce and are about to put their plan into action.

They have been advertising some jobs, Head of Estates and Head of HR were 2 of the ones I can recall seeing in December, there were some others but can't remember what....

I think they took possession late November (it was reported on Radio Stoke at around that time that the new owners had completed the deal) when the barriers went up on the access roads. Weston Road Academy had an "arrangement" with the previous owners fir parents to use the leisure centre car park as a pupil drop off point but the new owners stopped this when they put the barriers up.

Should be fun to watch how this pans out.

Where?

My understanding is no sale has been completed yet_ in full at least (but these announcements can tend to drag on) and the fencing was put up at the request and cost of Staffs Uni in anticipation of the hand over.

In one of our MP's newsletters, the middle of last year.

So, in return to your questions, let me ask you one; your understanding in the matter, where you getting the info?

Staffs Uni with regards the fencing as the properties were under their ownership still at the time.

Not being funny, I was just asking the question as I don't know and thoughy there might have been some offical news somewhere. Having trawled through the newsletter articles ( chances are not all of them) cannot see reference to timetables, sale confirmation or handing over of keys.

Until we see statements direct from the source I would take anything with a pinch of salt from our esteemed MP :)

Afterall, the express and star reported work had started the same week of a certain article report on Stafford`s new cinema (late November). Odd as at the time LXB had yet to confirm contractor and the site was totally vacant :)
