Beer garden in cycling distance?

A mate just got in touch, finally got a bike running again and wanted to know if I fancied a run up to the Red Lion after work for a few drinks in the garden. This would be great if the Red Lion still existed! They are on BMXs so don't want to travel too far, but at the same time I don't want to stay in town so......

Where is the best beer garden within a few miles of Stafford? We're starting from Holmcroft area if that helps, the red lion was perfect as no roads but will consider most places.

Burston Greyhound, via Marston and Enson? A bit of A51, but it's great on the way back.

Or Salt Hollybush, via the same route*?

And the Dog & Doublet.

Is there one at Seighford Holly Bush? Worston Mill is doable, via Seighford.

* Return via Sandon Bank for a great gravity ride, then Isabel trail - not so pleasant going that way.

The Bell and The Shropshire in Haughton can be accessed mostly via the disused railway, or carry on a bit further to Gnosall, I've heard good things about The Horns and The Boat is nice as well, it's a bigger distance possibly than you want but a nice, flat, safe ride.

You've got the Spital Brook just out of town, get a ride in first somewhere and detour? It's not far home then.

The Littleton in Penkridge is a nice place though not a brilliant ride to get to.

The just out of town ones are unfortunately Mostly Chain pubs now, The Radford, The Barley Mow, The new one on the Weston Road, Redhill and Shire Horse but they still sell beer and have outside seating.

Glad you mentioned that bit as was just looking at the map and hadn't thought about the gradient!
Sandon Bank is horrible going out-of-town, it's a long slog, but it's great coming back down.

The short, sharp bank from Salt to the top seems so much easier.

How do I edit this?
The Littleton in Penkridge is a nice place though not a brilliant ride to get to.

You could go via Hyde Lea & then come back via Acton Trussell for a decent enough ride that won't have masses of traffic. You can always use the canal towpath if Teddesley Road is too busy for you.

Edit: Something like this.

Red Lion at Bradley? Littleton Arms is more of an outside drinking area than a garden. Don't know what the Greyhound at Colton is like nowadays. Cock at Woodseaves, Anchor @ High Offley, watch the boats go by at Norbury Junction, Royal Oak at Church Eaton, Red Lion at Great Chatwell, Boar at Moddershall, Labour in Vain at Yarnfield? Work up a thirst on the way to the Blythe Inn at The Blythe (Kingstone). If you want to stretch your legs rather more then the Dog & Partridge at Marchington or the Old Bramshall Arms at Bramshall.

A lot of people on this thread that don't know what it's like to ride a BMX...

Seighford tops if you want to neighbour the ulu.

Otherwise don't kill them - Spittal Brook, Radford Bank, Oxleathers, Crown (Hyde Lea), that sort of distance.

Certainly no further - tell them it's time to get a grown-ups bike...

Went to Gnosall in the end, and because the clouds came in we decided to move indoors. Meant I got to visit the George and Dragon again, where cider and freshly made black pudding sausage rolls were consumed :D
