@tek-monkey , probably a fatty liver caused by too many pies...

Speaking of which, I'm making Meat n potato pie for tea.....I've found that the slow cooker cooks pie filling a lot quicker if you turn the stupid thing on!

I actually have pie for tea tonight, trying to run the freezer down ready for xmas as it's filled with food already. Tonight is steak and veg pie with cheddar mash and broccoli cheese :D

Slow cookers are great for steak and kidney Puddings, saves having to keep checking on the water level as you do when steaming them on the hob.

I just cook the filling of the pie in my slow cooker.....I'm wondering if MrsTrumpets Chicken, bacon & leek pie is like mine....not in pastry but with thinly sliced potato on top (& sometimes cheese & breadcrumbs).

I've only recently discovered that I can make pies, & the next one will HAVE to be chicken, leek & bacon in pastry :)

Mrs T's is in pastry, just a tip, for added body and flavour she uses undiluted condensed mushroom soup as the starting block for her filling.

*Gag*

Ahh see this is where pie filling gets interesting.....I make a cheese & thyme sauce in mine. I love mushrooms, but can't abide mushroom soup!

Hohum - other pie filling ideas are most welcome! (That don't include mushroom soup!)

"One September Ella Risbridger tried to kill herself. She survived and left the hospital thinking about making a pie. When she got home, her partner persuaded her to make the pie, and it set Ella on a course to teach herself to cook. And in teaching herself to cook, she has taught herself to live.

This is a programme about pies. The pork pie of Pete Brown and his ‘soon-to-be-wife’ Liz’s first date in Barnsley market. The pies that Julie Jones made with her mother which helped to keep her calm after a dementia diagnosis. Pies crafted by chef Calum Franklin, inspired by the surroundings of his London childhood, and pies creating a new future for young Preston businessman Robert D'Orville. Sheila Dillon travels to hear these stories, and uncovers a pie story of her own."
