Congratulations to Casa and their brilliant hard working staff, including my beautiful daughter - for winning three awards. Well deserved.

Well Casa must have really turned things around then as they were quite bad for trouble the first couple of years they opened. They were more concerned with what people were wearing than peoples safety!

If the scumbags on the door at Casa can win, that only goes to show how little competition there is in the region.

A few years a go my daughter worked at the Subway opposite Casa. The guys on the door at Casa could be relied on to to help out with the drunks and general dickheads ( M F).

I disagree that they are scumbags - the doormen are brilliant and really nice blokes. They sort out problems quickly and professionally.

Well unfortunately as they are paid to protect the premises and customers the easiest way of doing that is to chuck out drunken Joe Bloggs, but let known violent criminals and football hooligans frequent the place (and start fights) on a weekly basis. What happens when one of these known people starts yet another fight? They throw out the person that they have started the fight on and then go stand by the door, wait for the thugs to follow (not being asked to leave as that might involve confronting them) and watch the poor bugger get beaten senseless outside.
This then removes the trouble from inside the premises so they have done the job. It may be cowardly, but I guess they don't get paid a great deal and some of the known trouble makers really are nasty pieces of work. But what about poor old Joe Bloggs that's just had a kicking for no reason? Well he could call the police, but unfortunately the CCTV from inside Casa just never seems to record anything useful....

So anyway slightly more back on to the original subject of how Casa can win awards if you look at the crime stats then there are probably not that many incidents on the premises. Look at the stats for bridge street and there will be lots. So yeah they are doing a good job of throwing out drunks and people fighting, but as long as they allow the same criminals in every week that start the trouble they are not protecting the customers properly in my opinion.
I have noticed Chris Lewis has seen this thread - Chris do the pubs in town have a list of the trouble makers to not let in or does each bar have its own policy? As an owner would you let known football hooligans and violent criminals in or not? You see I would not want these people coming in, but I understand that potentially if you turn them away they could cause trouble at the door. Maybe they are reformed characters and won't cause any trouble on the night?.... It would be interesting to hear what you think anyway. I should say I have never witnessed any trouble in The Swan or The Bear. I don't know if that's due to the door staff or the type of customers you usually get (perhaps both?).

I got refused entry to casa because I was wearing trainers, despite the three people in front of me getting in also wearing trainers. I pointed this out, they were still in full view, but the doorman got aggressive and said I was calling him a liar.

That was about 4 years ago, but I've never been back and never will. If that's how you treat a paying customer you sure as chuff don't get my money.

There use to be a list of know trouble makers that was sent out to all the licensed premises but I've been out of the trade for a few years now so weather this is still the practice I'm not sure. There was also a list of bared people you were asked to keep out of the premises, the daughter's still in the trade I'll ask next time I see her. The problem I found with door staff was some thought they owned the place and ignored the bars door policy, one good thing that has come about was the introduction of the door supervisor badge, It has got rid of most of the wrong sort of people on the doors

Yeah they turned me away for having trainers on roughly 4 years ago as well. Its not like I wear chavvy trainers either they would not have been bright white sports shoes.
I've also know my mate be turned away for having pockets on the leg of his black trousers - no combats allowed they said.

My daughter used to work at Casa, it wasn't the staff or customers that made her leave, more managements attitude to turning a blind eye to whatever took place inside the building. Allegedly.

All premises that are memberes of BARCS, work together to make Stafford a safe place to enjoy a night out, BARCS is helping to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour within the town centres of Stafford and Stone
Retail and licensed businesses have joined together to combat and actively reduce all aspects of crime and inappropriate behaviour.

There is information sharing agreements between BARCS, Stafford Borough Council and Staffordshire police.
Members are linked directly to town centre CCTV centres by personal radio, delivering real time assistance and direct access to Police staff.

Members have access to information and images of offenders who persistently offend. A managed civil exclusion process is also part of the scheme, which allows the information to be used by all staff to reduce further incidents of crime or poor behaviour.

The number of exclusion orders from licensed premises currently numbers about 180 and they run from 3 - 12 months, depending upon the offence in any premise in Stafford, so for example assault on a lanlord or member of bar staff would result in a 12 month ban.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks. You will be keeping your opinion to yourself on this one then. ;) Fair enough.
