Boiler / heating engineer in Stafford

ahoy hoy all..

my central heating could do with a good going over.. it works (ish), but some of the radiators don't get very warm, the overflow outside drips a bit, etc. so i think it needs a bit of love and attention to get it working efficiently..

any recommendations for heating engineers in stafford? i know everyone immediately suggests rikki - any others? not at all a comment against rikki, incidentally - i'm just one of those people who likes to assess multiple options..

fanks :)

We always use Parsons.

They may be a little more expensive than an independent tradesman but we've always found them to be reliable, friendly, knowledgeable and spot on with the work that they do.

Are the radiators cold at the top or the bottom?

At the top - it's air - just bleed 'em.

At the bottom - sludge - bit more of a job...

Drip - ball valve may just be scaled up - nip up there and wiggle it about - the ball valve, that is.

Parsons aren't cheap but they are good. They also do emergency call out, which might be worth being aware of at some point in the future...

After recent experience I wouldn't use parsons, I used them after the comments on the forum -they were extremely slow to find replacement parts, the ones they found were not what we asked for to add insult gave totally ridiculous prices for cheap unsuitable materials and didn't bring back the parts that they took to source replacements - I was very very cross. Shame really, as they were quick and helpful initially but seemed to try and abuse our custom once they thought we were reliant on them, but they were absolutely unhelpful and it was painful experience something that should have took days to sort took many unproductive weeks. We need our boiler servicing and I won't be going to them.

In desperation I ended up going to the people that fitted our kitchen to sort our bathroom plumbing out, they aren't plumbers but they sorted it quickly with quality products & finish at a much better price.

Not good :(
Can only say I had the opposite, very helpful and quick to come out, and when we the fault wasn't rectified first time (very hard to tell, only failed if allowed to go fully cold) they were back out straight away. Possibly depends who you get, was Chris that came out to me but he lives in Australia now!

I hope you got onto Nige to complain because he'll go mad with whoever has buggered you about like this.

I 'inherited' a different local company, when I used to look after a student house - the same chap did it for a while, no problems, so I carried on with them - then, a different bloke turned up - utter nightmare, and I never went back.

Individuals are different, I suppose...

We've used them before for a boiler issue and I have found that they are consistently late sometimes by quite a few hours and you are provided with a running commentary of why they are late and are left feeling like they are doing you a huge favour and that you should be grateful, they charge plenty and their arrogance has annoyed me too much now to bother spending anymore time, energy or custom on them.

For example: If you have have a booked appointment they are dealing with an emergency, if it's an emergency then a job is over running due to unforeseen circumstances you are provided with the minutiae! I had enough when I had a planned early appointment and had a plane to catch in the afternoon and had to wait fof them, like I said previously I was very very cross and even more so when I found out it was all totally unnecessary!

thanks all.. i got a chap called harry bagnall round - very nice young lad, who knew what he was on about, and thankfully wasn't scared of admitting this particular job was slightly outside his comfort zone and i would be better speaking to (no prizes for guessing) @Rikki..

so rikki has been round, and 'tis all in hand.. thanks everyone :)

I contacted Parsons at the start of December for several jobs. At least one is quite large (replace external waste pipes for bathroom). A man came round, was v knowledgeable, said they would get back to me with a quote.

After 2 weeks I'd heard nothing so I chased them up. I wouldn't normally bother but they seemed ok when they fitted our boiler so I thought maybe the letter had got lost in the post. I spoke to a lady who said that the person who could do those quotes was not available. I asked if that was the real reason, because if they just don't want to do it, I would rather know so I can get someone else. She said it was the real reason and they would get back to me.

On Dec 23rd they phoned me and asked if I still wanted the quote, I said yes, I've still heard nothing from them.

I don't seem to have a lot of luck with plumbers or electricians recently. I'm still waiting for bpelectric to come round, I think I last spoke to him in October.
