Apologies if this subject is covered elsewhere but....

It appears The Bed Centre have purchased the car park behind the W&H and stopped locals using it. Interestingly it appears it was purchased from Stafford Borough Council for 30K. Anyone know if it was ever on the open market? Seems someone got a good deal......

Not up to speed on car park prices out of the town centre

Who got the good deal?

Beds or Boro?

This is a really strange case.

1) This piece of land was never put on the open market.

2) I thought Stafford Bed Centre had recently run a closing down sale (maybe in small letters it said for refurbishment or some other guff)

3) With this new found parking, a conversion to apartment would be waved through

4) Why the Bed Centre owners thought by saying to The Express and Star that "we are just looking after number one", would endear them to their neighbours and to the rest of the bed buying public seems very odd.

Is there a legal requirement to advertise public land sale?

Given the Conservative Government and Conservative councillors love of cuts perhaps there are other opportunities?

I'm looking for a small field within 5 miles of Stafford to hide my shed if anyone has any info

The bed centre was / is having a closing down sale as the owners want to retire and their sons want the more local ones to run. They'll probably turn the site into apartments tbh or just hold onto it for now.

I think the Bed Centre building had another floor before the big fire at the end of its previous life as a hotel.

There are some pictures of the fire about, but finding them might rely on @BobClay remembering its name.

You could try one end of the Marston Road Stadium.

It was the Turnpike Hotel.
Yes, I would never have remembered that - you can see the top floor in this circa 1965 picture.

I cant remember why, but I was under the impression that The Bed Centre was closing down....

I'd have paid more than 30K for it...... (given the opportunity of course) as, I suspect, would many others
For a small plot of land with no planning permission? I can't see a use for it TBH unless you could build, it's only of use to those that live there.
