Does anyone know if there is a local place which have these available for hire?

You might try Freedom Caravans in Little Haywood, they do hire out caravans, so this might be an additional service?

It's for our holiday in June so no rush at present. I'm at the point where I'm deciding whether to buy or hire. Storage is the issue if I bought and how much use the box would actually get.

I will report, if I spot one.

Roof bars are handy things to have, I got a Thule pair at the boot sale for a fiver on the basis that they 'looked about right' and they turned out to be an exact fit - they get used most months of the year.

Some roof boxes look like they might fit together with the base upside down in the top, for a smaller storage volume.

I've found a rental place in Stone which is very reasonable so it seems like I shall be going down the hire route rather than purchase.

We did the maths on buying vrs hiring last year and went with buying a decent sized box kit from https://www.roofbox.co.uk/ - I don't remember how much it was in the end but we liked the idea we could use it whenever we needed and it paid for itself against hiring in a couple of trips.

The hire cost for 10 days is £55. The price to buy the Thule box and bars I am hiring is about £350 so at present, I would rather spend £55 than £350.

I did consider buying from the website you mentioned, and maybe at some point I will, but not right now. And I have nowhere to store a box right now as my garage is like one of those lock-ups you see on Storage Hunters - it's full of crap.
