Car wash.

Went to the hand car wash behind Johnsons Cleaners on Monday they did a brilliant job. Two months worth of 150 mile a day commuting muck, dried on salt spray etc shifted in minutes for £3.50. The guy taking the money spotted a few tar spots that hadn't come off and told me next time I come in we can shift those (I think they were about to close) highly recommended.

I went there Monday too - left and the car was gleaming! Really good job for the money - not worth the hassle of doing it myself for that money.

Used to go Soap Shack, but that closed late last year - They did an equal quailty job, but for 6 or 7 quid if I remember, maybe their demise....

Great recommendation - thanks! Am going to give them a try, my car is filthy after the last few weeks weather conditions.

We also used to use Soap Shack, I suspect it was the advent of the car washers on Tesco car park that did for them - a real shame as they were an excellent business.

whereabouts is this? i always use the machine at asda, cos it gives your wheels a real good going over and always brings them up much better than the chaps in tesco (who i never found did a particularly good job)..

On the big traffic island where the A34 Queensway becomes A34 Lichfield road, about 200 yards from Asda.

ah, i know exactly what you mean.. every time we drive past, me & the missus always sneer snobbishly at them and say "i bet they don't get much business" cos it just looks like a pair of chavs with a hose in a car park lol..

guess i'll have to re-evaluate my daily-mail-esque position and give them a go!

I think next time mine needs a clean i'll mosey on down that way. Typically I only washed it myself recently...timing fail!

why do people clean their cars
because we're all capitalist scum and we adore our material possessions, and i feel better than you when i'm sitting next to you in a queue of traffic in my brand new, sparkly car and you're stuck in a battered ford orion :rich:

:teef: ;) etc.

Anyone know if this is a "legal" car wash? I'd think it's a bit too obvious to not be but you never can tell!

That is still Attwood's roundabout to me, although there may be some about who even remember Bailey's..

I've always been a bit sceptical of these "type" of washes.... there's a similar type down Silkmore lane round the back of the old Afford place.... I've never tried, and seems to only be open at random intervals.

A trip through Wolverhampton / Dudley reveals hundreds of these places at every turn advertising £3, £3.50, £4 car washes - pretty sure although not illegal in the eyes of the law as such - they need planning permission and the like to trade?

Have used Silkmore Lane place recently, seem to do a good job for the money and always have ALOT of customers.

Always drive past the roundabout and see the "chav" type figures with a hose and think I wouldn't let them touch my car!

I use that and it's excellent. The wheels on my car are not exactly easy to clean and they leave them spotless. Nice bunch of lads as well.

I always use the car wash at Silkmore Lane.

£3 wash, can't beat that and the lads are always nice.

They're getting mains water & power for the pressure washers so I'd say they're 'legal'.
There are a lot of these springing up all over the place now, often on dis-used garage forecourts. A by product of cheap supermarket fuel perhaps? Landlords are happy to let sites to these guys as a small rent is better than no rent at all, not to mention relief from the burden of Non Domestic Rates.

Does the Car Wash on Silkmore Lane still exist?

I've noticed driving past that the Caravan has disappeared and I don't think I saw the yellow sign near the gates. But, the signs on the old building are still up.

If these guys have closed, then surely no-one can survive. They were always busy, queue of 5+ common but they did a good job!

Hope if they have gone that they re-appear soon.

Talking Car Wash too, noticed a little while back that the guys on Tesco Car Park disappeared as well...
