Castletown Bypass - Western Access Road

I got a leaflet through the door yesterday from Cllrs Chris Baron and David Seary (Lib Dem) regarding the Castletown Bypass proposal. This has been rumbling on for years now, with many saying it's never gonna happen. Well...here's what the leaflet says:

Following the last Residents' Association meeting we have made enquiries about the route for the proposed bypass around the Castletown area.

There are 3 options which will go to public consultation on 3rd and 4th December at the Oddfellows Hall, Greengate Street.

We urge as many people as possible to attend and give their views as to the proposals. You can also let either of us know your views as follows:

Could be a very interesting meeting indeed, especially for those of us who may well live in the proposed building route!

Admin edit (Mon 29/03/2010): Added "Western Access Road" to thread title for clarification.

Cancel that, the plans are already up....

Will post a link in a second, in fact try this for the options (written):

The plan with all of the options on is on:

As a Castlefields resident I know which I would prefer but it won't be popular with Castletown residents :(

Seems to me like they've missed a frickin obvious option which is the yellow route from castlefields to where the new roundabout would be constructed, but then take the red route straight over to the bowloing alley and Halfords... or link it into the Green or Blue route.... otherwise it just seems like they have made it (the yellow option) majorly over complicated.

...the yellow route from castlefields
And in particular those people who live in the new Castle View Court development who already have the railway line running right past them!

Is that red route straight across the marshes? Not sure thats a great idea TBH, would rather trash buildings than greenery.

Assuming that they wish to divert traffic away from the town centre and the aim being to connect the A518 to the A34, would it not be cheaper to bung junction '14 B' on the intersection of the A518 and the M6 and perhaps build an extra lane between '14 B' and 15?

or maybe 13b at the castle juxstapose the new golf course, or is that what you meant?.....

Problem is they are trying to stop people using the Motorway for short (i.e. 1 junction) journeys so its a double edged sword.

Aye thats what I meant, but I did mean 13 and 14, obviously not 15 - my mistake.

Of course western downs would have to be taken into consideration and motoway junctions do tend to have a large footprint.

Thats why I suggested an extra lane, I can't think of a specific example off hand but there are several on the M6 alone where you come off the sliproad straight into a lane running adjacent to the normal three lanes, i.e. you don't have to merge right into the traffic and this lasts until the next junction and follows straight onto the sliproad again, i.e. no moving to the left to get onto the sliproad.

Does that make sense, because its late in the day lol

While there about it why not improve the 'bypass' route from blackheath lane thru' to the A34 at weeping x ?.........

The Eastern By-Pass was commenced in 1935 with the construction of Beaconside from Weston Road to Sandon Road. This was extended in 1975 from Sandon Road to Redhill. There was a short extention added to the new Fire Station around 2000ish and so it seems likely to take about another 150 years to complete. Hope this helps.

No, I see what you are saying... problem is they already ditched the motorway widening idea, so now they are going to use "hard shoulder running" instead so then adding an extra lane as you suggest either requires widening (which has already been ditched) or use the hard shoulder for that which puts them back to square one requireing the widening again?!?! :/

Oh right, I hadn't realised they had poo-poo'd the idea of widening the carriageway. In which case this idea is a non starter really, which is a bit of a shame because it may well have worked. What were the reasons against widening?

When the new flats were built next to The Railway we asked why so little of the plot was being developed (ie.shoved to one end of the plot). We were told that the end that is the carpark had a "covenent" of sorts on it as there was a long term plan to bring a new road throught that space ! If i recall, i'd already studdied the documentation when the land was for sale and think it was als referred to in that (i think) May have soemthing to do wth the 3 or 4 houses at the end being run down too ? maybe...maybe not ...just guessing !! PS. What is Councillors Seary and barons view on this ???? I'm intrigued !
