meanwhile back on thread, carephone warehouse have withdrawn their sponsorship from big brother. good on em i say.
If only they'd done it because of an ideological opposition to the programme's (non-)format, as opposed to a wish to not be associated with racist behaviour, it'd have been even better.

People will always want to watch other peoples lives. That's why people watch soap operas. With BB it's real people and it isn't scripted, people watch to see how the drama unfolds, how people behave and react to certain people and events. This can be, like it or not, entertaining.

Maybe there is so much reaction to what is happening at the moment is that it is a true reflection on society at present. The behaviour of these girls is showing up the bigoted, narrow minded views of many people in this country. The impact of this is that alot of people are talking about and commenting on this kind of attitude and behaviour. Is that not a positive thing if it means people are thinking about it and disagreeing with it more?

I'm not contesting the fact that people do (why oh why?!) find it entertaining. I'm saying that I can't for the life of me understand why this is the case, and, more importantly, stating that the things that pass for 'entertainment' these days are doing serious damage to the quality of our culture.

People need to start looking at themselves a bit more, rather than focussing on whichever twat happens to be flavour at the month at any one particular point in time.

I know that people have always had their icons, but these days such figures of worship and fascination are less and less worthy of it. The less of something somebody has to shout about, the more forums they seem to be given to shout about it, and I'm sick of it. You can say "turn off the TV", but maybe I want to watch TV. But perhaps while I'm doing it I want to be stimulated (oo-er) or to learn something.

The fact that people are willing to put up with, and furthermore be entertained by, such a load of old shit, despite deserving so much better because they're the ones whose consumerism and licence fees make its creation possible, means that more and more of it is being shown, and hence people like me who want to be entertained by something with a bit more substance are being marginalised and left increasingly disillusioned and frustrated.

The more culture becomes dilluted by this nonsense, the more of it will be made. The more of it is made, the less of anything else will be produced. The less of anything else that is produced will mean that more and more people, especially younger generations, will have less choice other than to buy into it, and so the cycle continues.

I know every generation has its nay-sayers who have a similar argument but I'm convinced it's one that's becoming more and more vaild.

One thing you can say about BB is even if you find it entertaining or not, as this thread certainly proves, it stirs up some interesting debate and comments.

MISS T

Forum user & abuser
Last night, on Big Brother's Big Mouth, Russell Brand made the point that we shouldn't call Jade names, that doing so would be just as bad as the hateful, vicious bile that the Essex millionaire and her idiot bullies have aimed towards Shilpa over the last week. He's right of course; such a pathetic vendetta as that conducted by the three almost doesn't deserve a dignified response.

Almost, but not quite.

Because let's not skirt around the issue here: this is bullying of a quite staggering scale, made all the more startling as it's being conducted on a national stage, in front of tens of millions of people worldwide, who would have watched Jade's argument over stock cubes with jaws hitting the floor. Put simply, there hasn't been a televisual moment of such cringeworthy, overwhelming embarrassment since David Brent decided that he was the best dancer in his office.

Whatever 'career' the self-appointed 'minger' had before she came in the house has now been extinguished in a rush of righteous, poetic justice. The show that made her, that endeared her to a public shocked by the level of hate being sent her way by tabloids keen to laugh at her ignorance, has now left her a figure of disgrace and national shame.

Not only should Jade be kicked out emphatically on Friday, but the clip of her collapsing in a wretched, laughable fit of apocalyptic rage, surrounded by grinning morons who have neither the intelligence nor the heart to intervene, should be played on an endless loop on television and in public squares up and down the country, begging the question: Is this the country we've now become? Certainly not. Has Big Brother, in first creating the monster, now exposed her true ugly, vile and ultimately pointless soul? Oh yes.

Reality television has always seen the good will out - never will this be seen more clearly than on Friday. The rise of the idiot ends here.

Very elequently put Miss T. Skill is granted. Agree with everything you said. I will be watching later on to see her face when she is booted (oh she already is!) and realises what she has done to her 'career'.

If the public are still interested in this vile excuse for a human being (or is that bean) and her quite frankly, retarded boyfriend, then something is seriously wrong with this country!

i watched mock the week last night, and one of the panellists said if jade gets voted out tonite there should be complete silence, with no crowd baying for her blood outside. as the remaining contestants cup their ears at the door to hear the peoples response to jades exit, amongst the silence and tumbleweed, a single shot rings out.

well, there was no crowd baying for her blood outside, and unfortunately, amongst the silence and tumbleweed a single shit didn't ring out. damit.

A lad I play footie with bought some shitty Sunday tabloid yesterday, and flicking through I found some of the most horrifying pictures I've ever seen - Jade crying.

All this accompanied by the quote "I didn't know 'poppadum' was a racist word."

Proof, if proof were needed, that people like this should not be permitted to breed.
