I suspect we won't know until a planning application gets submitted.

I see the under offer boards, and the scaffolding has come down

My father is part of the Old Eds, which is the association for alumni of the grammar school. I know they've been involved in discussion (mostly due to the war memorial) but he doesn't know who has bought it.

It'd make fabulous apartments, I'd love to know what they'd do with the hall, it's an amazing space.

The hall was designed and built by the local authority

Couldn't see that happening today anywhere

Have the Chinese moved in to Beaconside in any numbers?

THat was more cricket or football when I was there. Wore some shoes out on that "pitch" as well as nearly smashing windows with my powerful right foot! ;)

What years were you there Gilbert? In my time the grassed area (which was from the edge of the Chetwynd car park to the Tesco building following the line of the access road to the side of Tesco's) was the cricket square and a rugby pitch.

I don't recall there ever being a football pitch there but that may have changed after I left.

I can't remember the playing fields extending to Tesco. I'm not sure if that's because I'm too young or through memory loss!

This is probably towards the end of the 1960s.

The overheads are up on the railway.

The trees are where the access road by the side of Tesco is now and were the extent of the school field.

This road led down to the BRSA (railway) club and the Salop sidings coal yard.

If you clicked on the link it pointed straight onto what is now the Chetwynd Centre car park and what was the playground. I was there from 79 to 82. My late Mum had a Chetwynd inauguration certificate as she was on the staff when Chetwynd launched.
The schoolyard/car park went up to roughly where the current boundary fence is, then the school sports field went to somewhere around, I would estimate, where the front of the tills in the shop are.
