Roast potatoes - Normally homemade , with whatever oil I've got in and a sprinkle of dried mint on....this year son fancied frozen roasts in Goosefat so those it's going to be for a change.

Mashed potatoes
Garden Peas
Carrots
Sprouts
Cauliflower cheese
Honey Roast parsnips .
Yorkshire puddings.

Homemade onion sauce ( going to make it a day in advance this year and warm it up . I get evil messing around doing it! )
Mint Sauce
Apple Sauce
Bisto gravy

Cheesecake and cream for pud this year. Last year I made my own steamed jam sponge and custard. (Don't like christmas pudding)

Going to be different this year though , and I'm dreading it. !!!! :(
I've always plated it up for all these years.

Now after 40 years of me doing what I thought was nice meals... hubby has announced he doesn't like my roast dinners :( (after tipping all his sunday dinner off the plate the other week  ) and wants to have it all in seperate dishes in the middle of the table for us all to help ourselves this christmas. And he doesn't like my thick gravy , so got to do thick gravy for me and son and thinner gravy for him. Aaargh.

He has visions of nice serving dishes in the middle of the table like he sees on telly .In reality it will be in saucepans , odd casserole dishes, mixing bowl and whatever else I can find under the cupboards to put it in . Complete with apple / mint sauce in the jars. All squashed onto a table with not enough space to fit it all on. Then by the time we've all got what we want on our plates it would have gone cold :ohno: I'm dreading it now !!!

Son is quite happy for me to dish his up for him , as he always likes how I do his dinners. But is willing to give the ' help yourself thing a go' to keep the peace..

Got to go to retail park in a minute to look for a gravy boat or a decent glass Pyrex jug. I've just been using my tatty plastic measuring jugs for gravy and sauces all these years.

Might buy some ready meals for xmas day while I'm at it , instead of all the faffing about !

If this COVID shambles means I can't get up to family in Stourbridge AGAIN this Christmas this will probably be my Christmas Dinner. Always makes me laugh though .... I mean .... what the f*** is Staffordshire Balti ? 😲

It's a simple logistical issue.

The normal people take their (proper) gravy first.

If there is any left, then the dissenter can use a small jug of hot water to thin it down to (im)perfection.

Wow. I'm speechless at the lack of gratitude. Tell him it's his turn to make Christmas dinner or shove it up his ar*e, either one :D

Jeez, tell him to reheat something he gets from the chippy the night before and eat it in the garden with an attitude like that. You and son can enjoy nice food instead.

Why? Just serve how you want.

If it's taken him 40 years to summon up the courage/gall to tell you he doesn't like how you do YOUR dinner tell him to do his friggin own.

PS if he doesn't eat it send me a message and I'll bring Bee up to hoover the goodies up. She likes any gravy 😂

I did need some extra mixing bowls and decent jugs anyway (for all the goodies I'm about to attempt to bake ....) so a good excuse for spending even more money (along with a jumper as an early christmas present to myself ) ;) .

I'll have to make loads then , so that I can get to meet the lovely Bee :)

For our Christmas dinner I usually make Turkey, Ham glazed with orange and whisky, roast potatoes, parsnips, cauliflower cheese, braised red cabbage with apple, swede & carrot mash, sprouts, possibly another green veg, stuffing, bread sauce, cranberry sauce and lashings of gravy.

I always make enough to feed far more than is coming so there are plenty of leftovers and I don't have to cook for a week afterwards and we have Christmas dinner take 2 on boxing day :)

The Wimpy being shut Christmas Day, means I will actually have to do some cooking, hopefully for 11.

Beef, Gammon (nobody likes Turkey in our two families), Yorkies, roasties, sprouts, carrots, parsnips, stuffing and white sauce. Home made Xmas pud and mother made Christmas cake to follow.

As everyone is staying over for a few days there's no excuse to not drink wine (except for the kids) and I'll be digging into the stuff I brought over when we went to France in October.
