Perhaps it's because they calculate that cider is largely a drink of West Country yokels and that zone has been surrendered to the Lib Dems..

I am rather a fan of the 'silly cider' aka Addlestone's they have at the spit. Proper tasty. I also like the Thatcher's Heritage they occasionally used to have on at Joxer's. Mighty Tasty.

So to say the least i am most upset about this increase in ciderage. Looks like i'll have to move on to spirits...

Apparently cider is taxed differently to lager/bitter, as it is a flat rate rate regardless of % as long as it is under 8.5%. Anyone know any more on this? From what I can see this means cider gets taxed as if it was 2% lager pretty much, which begs the question why do so few pubs sell decent ones if they can get more money from them?

These are the new rates. Strange that they take little account of alcohol content - and tax it in metric, but will prosecute you for not selling it in imperial...

The Wurzels have complained about it though.

The cider hikes that is, not the lib dem dominance.

As you all know I'm a fan of the old green goblin, sold by Wychwoods but I've always suspected it was from Thatchers. Imagine my suprise when I found Thatchers even brand it up as their own as well:

Also as a nod to the wise, I had mention earlier from someone who lives near Thatchers brewery that the onsite shop is currently selling cases of Tesco Finest cider. This one is 7.4%, no idea how many they sell but one at least is made by Thatchers. Odds on the others are too?

cheers...

talking of cheers the blackthorn 9quid for 24 cans seems to have dried up (though not before i bought another pack) not surprised at that what with all the V goers in the vicinity the way they're stocking up Tesco would do well to suspend as many booze offers as they can. As from what i've observed this morning they'll buy it anyway......
As reported on 21st aug '09 the V goers are again in abundance in tesco today and cider seems to be one of the most popular beverages, from what i observed......

A trip to Tesco today will get you 24 cans of strongbow for a tenner. However if you've not used the online groceries before you can use code XXAFFT to get £10 off a £50 order. Even better, if you use a referral link from topcashback when signing up you get a further tenner cashback to your account. Takes 2 months or so to appear, but its free cash monies. I have just ordered 4 crates of strongbow and a crate of Stella 4% for £43.50 delivered, with an extra tenner to come later.

Sorted :D

EDIT: £10 tracked on topcashback now too :D

Fire Grouse real cider will be back on from tomorrow. The guy who brews it can't keep up with you lot. Anyway ordered s**t loads this time and managed to get further discount, so I'm reducing the price accordingly. £3.25 instead of £3.50 How's that?
