Yes indeed.
All too many people choose a village to live in partly because it has a pub and then never or very rarely use it.
Friends of ours have lived in Yarnfield for thirty years and I don't know if they've ever been in the Labour in Vain, so no surprise then that it's been empty for ages.
The Labour turned into a shithole after Brian & Jean left it in the 80s!
There was a bloke who spoke in a Canadian accent way back in 2004. (He originally came from Cannock) Him and his Mrs held a Vicars & Tarts party for the New Years Eve, My 41st. Long story shortened, they had friends who really took against something I asked them, and because my sister had a go back, they waited till she went the loo and beat the shite out of her.
He didn't give a monkeys as long as we kept putting cash in the till. I've been in there the once since that night.

When The Crown at Hyde Lea was my local, a couple used to come in once a year on Christmas day with visiting family, they used to joke about it being their annual visit.

It's always been the case that a bad tenant can seriously damage a pub, and if you complained to Enterprise Inns about that incident I expect their response was that the running of the pub is the responsibility of the lessee not them.
But conversely an excellent tenant can turn round the fortunes of a "shithole" pub.

Just back from Sunday lunch with Mrs T, boy and gurly in law. Couple of pre lunch pints in front of the fire, roast beef dinner looking out at the rain. Perfect. Just need a black and white cowboy film to finish the day off.
