By popular demand, here is a forum dedicated to meeting people in real life. It could be that you're single and looking for that special someone, or perhaps you just want to find friends to have coffee with - this is the forum for you. :)

If anyone has any specific requests for things they would like to see here (e.g. ability to post anonymously, a way to list one's relationship status on your profile, etc.) then let me know and I'll see what I can do. :)
I am divorced and considered attractive and intelligent and would enjoy the company and conversation of an intelligent man sometimes but, having tried on line dating, they all seem to want to skip the 'getting to know you bit'.

@John Marwood 's like a puppy, great to take for a walk but the yapping gets a little tiresome after a while, and you'll be glad to get him back to the dog home, soon after he's popped round your house and pee'd up your curtains!

It very much depends upon how it is interpreted. Just trust me, I know what I am doing, but thank you very much for your interest both.

I hope you do have good luck. My partner had similar experiences to you with dating sites a few years back but her son has found an absolute peach through one.. We first met many years ago when we were both amongst a group of people peering down a manhole in the middle of Cambridge bus station and our lives have intertwined over the years, mainly through beer festivals, industrial archaeology & canals. So one suggestion might be to look at local societies involved with things in which you are interested and see if you can meet someone that way.
