I think the hospitalisations are more important now, and that won't become clear until next week.
Or even the week after.

The government's roadmap is based on stages 5 weeks apart. That is:
  • 3 weeks to allow each stage's changes to impact (or not) the numbers;
  • 1 week to evaluate the impact of the changes; and
  • 1 week's notice for the next stage.

Kingston Centre are doing 12 hour days until at least 18th April (as that's the last shift I can book). I read somewhere that the next 4 weeks we're getting loads of supply, then the Astra Zenneca will drop off a bit. I like @john_actuary on Twitter for all things vaccine stats.

Just returned from the Holmcroft vaccine centre. They have plenty of vaccine delivered this morning. They think 55+ age group is almost done as its starting to get quieter and are ready to start 50+ as soon as government give the ok. Apparently they can do 650 vaccinations a day
They said up the showground they have the capacity for 1000-1200 a day when they can get the full supplies as well. Hope ample supplies keep on coming for all our centres and can keep on whacking them into arms as fast as they are doing. Everyones doing a brilliant job ! :)

Enjoying a drop of red.
So what's going on with the AZ vaccine then. Genuine concern by certain countries? A cynical political ploy as they prepare to announce the usage of the Sputnik vaccine? Or is there going to turn out to be something seriously wrong with AZ and we're screwed.

Blood clots in groups that get blood clots in line with the averages for those countries

Utter bollocks basically, feels political but also the media latch on to anything right now just to drive clicks

Media: PANIC!

Media: EVERYONE WILL DIE

Media: Guys why are you so worried everything is fine?

Worrying, as I've had a transplant due to blood lots and take blood thinning medication.

Can't say it effected (blood clot wise) me though when I had my first one, although I had other very bad side effects and I'm really worried about the next one.

There's something really odd going on in Europe about this.

I also read, but can't find it, that the same rate has been observed with the Pfizer one.

The contraceptive pill also has a higher potential rate of blood clots than the AZ vaccine (it increases a woman's chances of getting them by 3x or more).

I don't buy it's anything to do with Brexit or the "mardy EU", though, sorry. Just a general disregard of the usual level of risk one takes when taking medicine of any kind, probably because of the mistaken belief that these vaccines have been developed "too fast" (rather than it being a building upon existing research and data) and with fuel being added to the fire by the anti-vaxxer movement on social media. Besides which, I'm sure the UK would also take similar precautions in the face of such reports if this were not a home-grown vaccine...

I'm sure plenty would have a heart attack if they took out the list of possible side effects for any medicine they take regularly.

The potential side effects of the pill are horrific. I remember it being brought up when they were trying to develop a male version and one of the side effects was a headache or something so they scrapped the idea IIRC? It didn’t go down well, I’m sure many women wish the only side effect of the pill was a headache.

Yeah, the situation where I learned that stat was very much in the "should we talk about how this puts women at much greater risk than the vaccine, yet no one cares" context :(

And from personal experience it can screw with your mood, perpetuating the mardy women stigma.
