Coronavirus.

Went to the Dr's today for a non covid related injection and ended up again being threatened with hospital, only put off as I've agreed to see the specialist long covid nurse for a full MOT.... They seem very thorough nowadays, obsessed with my blood pressure, breathing, coughing achey joints.... And apparent asthma that I should have been taking medication for since I was 14! (I was told at 17 that I no longer had asthma)....

Yeah they were doing covid passports or negative tests for entry, though I wasn't very convinced by them. The guy checking mine barely gave the QR code a passing glance so I could have easily gotten in with a faked one.
In my nine weeks in the UK I only once felt any real pressure for masks to be worn, and that was when I went to the hospital to have my aorta looked at - in general daily life it seemed very 'optional', and few masks were evident. Nobody ever showed any interest in my vaccination status. I did, however, keep my interactions to a minimum

Back on the western island now, masks are 100% in any shop or other indoor public scenario.

I've been in two pubs and, whilst I haven't been checked each time, both are well aware of my pre-existing vaccine status, the landlady of one being the district nurse. The identities of all attendees would be well-known to the staff.

In one of the pubs, last night, a local did come in with an 'outsider', boosting the clientele to four - this outsider was recorded and logged as an associate of the companion.

To enter the state, I was required to complete an online Passenger Locator Form - should there be an outbreak linked to the transport, this makes you contactable. It is intended that you should be denied boarding in the UK, should you not have evidence of having completed this form - this check turned out to consist of me being asked if I had and replying "Yes". Checks on disembarking from the ferry were a little more realistic.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Well, pre excitement, I would normally be 'looking forward' to spending the next 4 nights in the RV on one of the NEC's finest car parks for the Classic Car show. Although the show is on this year, I took the decision not to subject myself or my staff to indoor shows until at least the middle of 2022.

Can't say I'm missing it one little bit, to be honest. Time will tell what, if any, impact it has on the business but I expect it's having a big impact on everyone's mental health.

I can only say that Covid has been great for us introverts.... Not having to attend work functions, do's, party's, and even general family gatherings has been heaven for me.

I do feel for people who have the need for such socialisation, but I've found it brilliant!

Sorry, not sorry!

I'm quite happy to talk all day to all and sundry at shows, whether I'm there for work or in a private capacity. Indeed I've been to quite a few outdoor shows this year and felt perfectly safe and happy.

The thought of spending 4 days in a indoor hot, steaming environment with 20000 odd people per day, breathing their germs around though fills me with dread at the moment. Always used to catch some virus or other after the indoor shows as it was...

If you're not happy with socialising, fair enough but I don't understand why you'd put yourself through it, pandemic or no pandemic. Why do something you're uncomfortable with? Decent people and your mates will understand. If anybody doesn't understand, then they're a twat and aren't worth bothering with anyway. :)

Know what you mean, for works 'Christmas do' this year rather than a full blown company dinner dance etc we're having a local beer and curry night just for Stafford office. Although I'm currently working at Willenhall I'll be at the Stafford do.

As an introvert I really enjoyed being alone and having no pressure to fit in etc. Now though I do want to do a bit more, mostly at work. I moved roles back into Marketing from Finance in May so that may be to do with my colleagues. Maybe I'm really an ambivert.

Or an Omnivert?! (yes, I had to look up ambivert).

I like the odd family meal out, and I will attend work/family stuff usually, but it's usually because I'm pressured to go, not because I want to go. I'm the person that always finds an excuse not to go, or will be the first person to leave. I usually enjoy my time while I'm there, but still the urge to get home is terrible.

The only thing I longed for during covid was the seaside.... I usually hate holidays as I suffer terrible homesickness, but I really thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Wales in the summer.

I think being around so many people in my job has made me like this, I just want to get away from the world at the end of the day, but covid and being poorly during summer made me appreciate special family times (holiday) more.

I'm lucky, I have family & friends that understand how I am.... I don't want to go to an event, but get upset if I'm not asked to it!

I also appreciate that to some people socialising is a massive part of their life, and have seen the sadness/loneliness & depression that covid has brought onto some of my friends.

Everyone's different, and we are all the same.

I've always known it as ambivert but it appears omnivert is the same.

I am always knackered by socialising, we do personality profiling called Insights at work and I have to dial up my 'sunshine yellow' to socialise. I've just redone it 5 years later so I'd be interested to see if I've changed.

Sunshine yellow?

I can be perfectly social if and when I want, and people in my work place probably think of me as extrovert, but I'm really not.

In theory you have a bit of each of these colours in your personality, and it can be different consciously and subconsciously. I have a lot of blue and red and very little green. Consciously I have to dial up the amount of the yellow traits I displayed.

I think a lot of people I know would be surprised I'm an introvert. Takes me ages to start but once I know you you can't shut me up.

Indeed, we were wondering about EGX in the ExCeL this year but decided we didn’t really like the idea of surrounding ourselves with thousands of people already known for dubious hygiene

Hope you are feeling OK @BobClay , I found taking paracetamol helped with the banging head and concrete arm, hopefully you don't have any symptoms.

I'm following up with lots of gin, and the odd blood pressure test, as per Dr's orders! 🤣🤣🤣

I'm on a strict regime of blood pressure monitoring these days. Two readings in the morning and two in the evening. Happily a bit of technology in the phone app records the readings and works out the averages and prints a pretty graph which I then transfer to an Excel Spreadsheet also with a nice graph and built in warnings about the safety valve lifting. (Engine Room training.)

I'm happy to report that since I've been doing this for nearly a year the old BP has been boringly normal. No boiler seams leaking or gauges creaking with the strain. 😎

Ahhghhh, you've just reminded me that I haven't done mine this morning.... They make me take 3 readings, but I only have to write down the 2nd & 3rd.....
