Sorry to be the Christmas Grinch but can anyone please explain what the current legal COVID requirements are?

Last week I spent three nights in Llandudno, one night in Manchester, one night in Birmingham and yesterday back in Manchester. My findings are:

The majority of people on trains in Wales don't wear any masks X;
People in pubs in Wales don't wear masks X;
People in concerts in Wales don't wear masks X;
The staff on the doors at the gig were ultra thorough in checking COVID passports and even turned some fans away ✔️;
People in Manchester pubs or at United don't wear masks (I counted just 4 other people with a mask on between the ground and my car ,15 minutes away) X;
United don't bother doing COVID checks or enforce mask wearing X;
The majority of people on trains in England do wear masks ✔️;
People in restaurants and pubs in Birmingham don't wear masks X;
Old people who wear masks have no concept of social distancing X;
Younger people who don't wear masks don't give a shit about the concept of social distancing X;
Nobody anywhere was challenged to put a mask on apart there was a mention of the law on the automated train announcements in Wales X.

So in conclusion Boris may as well crack on with his little shindig because no laws are being enforced and we'll all be infected soon anyway.

In my workplace we are allowed to aske people if they have a mask, or if they would like one of ours. We can not challenge them in anyway if they say they don't have one/want one.

The abuse of staff has got so bad now that all staff on the doorway entrance now have to wear a security camera which records any violence and aggressive behaviour and immediately contacts security/police.

I don't really see how wearing a mask in a pub or a restaurant would be effective. You can't eat or drink through then so germs will spread all over the place anyway.

LFC don't make any attempt to do COVID or mask checks either. I took this up with a director at the last home game and his response was that if they tried to enforce it there'd be a riot. Either because the fans would object or because of the delays that would inevitably ensue. Hopefully it's not such an issue when your in the stands with fresh air blowing about...

I see we're bullying the Nigerians now in the name of placating public opinion.

The horse has long since bolted on the Boris, you twat. Travel restrictions are totally pointless.

With the approach of a promised meteorological armageddon tomorrow, I have been to a couple of shops in a pre-emptive strike, so I can stay put now.

One was a Lidl, the other is a Wilko's-type place - everybody was masked and neither felt any need to have 'people on the door'.

The UK does look strange from outside...

Sorry challenge was the wrong choice of words on my part.

I do not expect staff to actually challenge but a polite reminder might be appropriate as long as staff are happy to ask.

The point I was really trying to make was everyone is uncertain of the rules this time and there are some who would usually comply with the law who aren't because there are so many blatantly ignoring the law.

At least all of the naysayers have surely had their jabs and the best of luck to those of them who haven't.

I must be extremely lucky with my timing because, without exception, everywhere I've been in town in the last week has had I'd say 95% or higher mask adherence. I say "everywhere" that's only been Sainsburys, Tesco and WH Smiths several times each.

Everyone is uncertain of the rules...
No one cares about rules anymore.

I didn't mean to come across as being arsey or having a go at you either.

My 2hrs as 'Door moniter' a few days ago again showed the worst in people.... Vicious, rude and arsey comments when i asked people if they had a mask, horrible comments when I asked if they would like one of ours. All they have to say is 'I'm exempt'... I can't ask why or challenge people, in fact personally I actually don't care, all I can do is take care of myself & my family and do what I think is the best for us.

Thank goodness my new inhaler now allows me to wear my mask without any breathing problems so I feel safer.

Sorry again @Thehooperman if I sounded like I was having a go, I really wasn't!

No you weren't being arsey at all and I didn't take it as you having a go. I've said it before that I am 100% behind all frontline people and really am thankful for the good work you guys have done since this clusterfook started.

I just don't understand the blatant flippancy of law breaking and people losing all of that respect and care for the well-being of others that we had at the start.

I've just had an email inviting me for a booster again, saying NHS records show I've not yet had it. Had it back in October at the Kingston Centre! Kept having reminder texts for weeks afterwards. Hubby had the batch number of his and everything at one time since the day after his booster , but they have now also disappeared from his online GP records.

Mine never showed on there at all.

Going to have to ring 119 tomorrow to get records put straight :hmm: . Know I've had it myself , but don't want to be denied access to places in the future due to records saying I'm not fully vaccinated !

Good!

I don't understand it either. And it really is a clusterfook. Lots of other customers ask why we don't do anything to stop them coming in without masks, but the truth is we can't do anything, even if it puts ours, our family, friends and other customers safety at risk.... As I said, it's that bad that we all now have to wear cameras... Sad state of affairs.

As I understand it, you are legally required to wear a mask in shops or on public transport (unless you have exemption). You do not have to wear a mask in pubs, restaurants or most other places but are encouraged to do so. Doctors' surgeries, hospitals, pharmacies will normally require you to wear a mask.

(Sainsburys had one litre bottles of Baileys for ten quid on sale yesterday ... I felt obliged to buy one (ish.)) :P:pint::urgh::dance::cool::eek:
Thought I'd done well getting son to get me a 12 quid one on offer from Tesco. Feel done now! ( And hearing depressing covid news of all these new bloody variants etc , feel like a glass or two....but the bottle is 60 miles away:rolleyes: )

Just spent half an hour ringing 119 ( and getting cut off whilst in queue) after getting an email from them yesterday saying their records showed I'd not had my booster yet and to ring 119 to book one in...

Started to think I'd just dreamt I'd gone for it in October , especially as the jabber was so good I didn't even feel the needle go in. ( was about to message @FooFighter to check if he did actually see me coming out after it :lol: )

System error apparently .

Got details showing on my NHS app this morning , so printed copies off ,as proof, before it disappears again.
