I was so annoyed with my new hairdresser , when someone rang to cancel because they had covid. He was going off on one cussing them for cancelling " It's only bloody flu !"

We've lost hubby's cousin to covid in the early days when it first started, our neighbour lost his mum at the start as well, and my friend was hopitalised and still not properly recovered ages after coming out of hospital !

Thankfully I caught it after I'd had 2 Pfizers , and although not bad enough to be hospitalised, it really knocked me about for a fortnight.

Been feeling rough this past fortnight , and still feeling rough, but daily lat flow tests still saying negative, so looks like I've caught another nasty bug going around here :(
(Hoping it's a bug and nothing else serious....couldn't get to even see or talk to a Gp or nurse...receptionist got me to go back outside and spend an hour on the phone waiting to speak to her , then got me to self diagnose over the phone and just said she'd send me some antibiotics to the local pharmacy. They don't seem to be working... Unfortunately going to take a couple of weeks for our transfer to another new GP practice to be completed. )
Am I reading that right... you walked into the GP's to speak to the receptionist, but got told to ring them up while standing outside? WTF!

I'd been told to go in for a medication review , with being new to the practice. Thyroid etc blood test & blood pressure taken. ( Hubbys on really serious heart meds & just dished them out without him even being called for a review)
The nurse doing it said I looked bad, I said I was & had been hoping she could sort me out.
She told me to go reception & say she's said I need to see a doctor.
Went to reception and was told " we don't work that way here. You will have to go out and ring us "
Me..."So I've got to ring from outside then?"
" yes"
People queuing behind me were saying "that's ridiculous" as I walked out.
Car too hot to sit in , I stood under a tree & rang. 1 hour in queue , and just about answered before their 1pm cutoff.
Got issued antibiotics by same Receptionist, not knowing whether I should really be having them....not seen or spoken to a medical person before they sent prescription to pharmacy.
Drove to the city practice that son uses straight after. Registered with them now!

As I wouldn't have had a mobile 'phone with me would they have said that to me and told me where the nearest 'phone box is, probably quite some distance ?

Laughed out loud when I read this passage in my current book ('The Irrational Ape' by David Robert Grimes) this morning:

"It’s also worth noting that anti-vaccine activists often avoid referring to themselves as such, instead using euphemisms as ‘pro-safe vaccines’. But this is just a semantic game – if one amplifies anti-vaccine claims while completely ignoring the overwhelming evidence of safety and efficacy, one can hardly be said to be acting in good faith. If you only question scientific evidence but give any old anecdote a free pass, then you’re evidently stacking the deck. One’s actions define whether one is anti-vaccine (or racist or misogynist, etc.) or not, and in this respect self-identification is pretty much irrelevant."

You need to change your signature then, but it wont have the same ring to it! :bum:

I'm convinced I have it again, but it's not showing up. It's been 4 days since I was exposed so I may just have a bug.

There are a lot of reports of it evading LFTs with the current strains and only showing up in PCR tests so, if you've had it before and the symptoms feel familiar, there's a good chance it is it.

(Though it could also just be something else, of course)

I felt so ill standing there. She only spoke to me when I rang back and issued antibiotics request to pharmacy , as I told her again the nurse had just told me to ask to see a doctor. I've spent 2 hours in queues on 2 calls to them so far . They've f@cked up the patient access and our NHS apps. We're now still classed as with Stafford GP, but also not and they can't get it changed properly on their computer. So got to resort to hand pieces of paper to requests repeats.First one failed to be done . 2nd try worked . Now this 3rd one hasn't been done. Went with them as local and thought it would be easier. Got no faith in them at all if I ever had an emergency.

Luckily we are "just about within the boundary edge" for this new surgery we've now registered with on Monday . They were gobsmacked at how I was told to go outside to ring the desk I'd just been standing at as well , when I told them why I wanted to change after just 4 weeks. They said they'd get all the patient access & NHS working properly once all set up. Should have gone with them in first place , but didn't realise their boundary just about stretched to us.

Still wouldn't be suprised if I've actually got covid now, but latflow tests not showing it. They took 6 days to turn positive last time....

I am. Feel a lot less washed out today so maybe it isn't. The person who has it is getting positive LFTS so I'd expect to as well.

Not a pandemic and not an international health emergency? ... Tell that to my family & colleagues that have been hospitalised with it, and those that have lost people.

🙄🙄🙄
I'll tell the mother in law, she'll be glad as it'd mean she's not dead now
PS

Stafford
Between 30 July 2022 and 5 August 2022, 9 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows a decrease of -10.0% compared to the previous 7 days.

A negative decrease you say? There's a word for that!

I'm not sure where you got these figures from - can you please provide a link?
cases_2022-08-05.png

The gov.uk site at https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map/cases shows 162 cases for Stafford Borough for that period, down 6.4% from the previous 7 days. you can zoom in to different areas, e.g. Central Stafford or Moss Pit & Silkmore Lane, but I can't find your 10 cases anywhere.

if you go to the Cases link on the left of the website, it explains:

Cases by area (last 7 days)

Total number of cases in the most recent 7-day period and rate per 100,000 people. Data are shown by specimen date (the date the sample was taken from the person being tested). Because data by specimen date are incomplete for the most recent dates, the figures shown are for the 7 days ending 5 days before the date when the website was last updated.

I didn't really want to state the obvious either but the lack of free testing and that coronavirus has vanished from the headlines means probably barely anyone is testing, more than anything.
I'm only testing because I'd got a stock of free ones left. (Baswich library were handing out boxes of 48 once ) I wouldn't have bought test kits , unless exceptionally ill, otherwise.

I tested positive yesterday morning, got kicked off the ward tootsuite. Caught it off one of the girls.
I have never felt so sodding rough in my life.
Why is it, everyone I know that's had it, feels like they're going to die, yet if a patient gets it, they're up and walking around like there's nowt wrong? Wonder if it's sumat do with the cocktail of medication they're all on?

Captains Log, Stardate today, from a ½ Covid house, somewhere in Happy Valley. (½ cos youngest hasn't got it)

I wish I hadn't become so complacement about this virus. Been at 2 Covid hospitals, St.Georges and Royal Stoke. Sat with patients who have had this, though they looked so blooming healthy, no-one would have known any better.
Went for a walk with the youngest this morning at 3am, just round the pond out the back here, what should have taken 15 minutes tops, took an hour. I had to have a sit down on the Castlefields side for a good 20 minutes catch my breath. And had anyone driven over the Castleworks bridge, they'd have had wait a while for me shuffle to the side.
On the plus side, if there is one to all this, I'm falling sleep what seems every couple of hours, and I seem to be having some serious deep sleep, not waking up feeling any better, but nothing is waking me, not even someone knocking the front door.

Make that a full Covid house. Youngest has tested positive this afternoon.
