Ordered a bed, mattress , topper and ottoman from Dreams. Tried to do it in store but had to do it online in the end. The day of delivery we were told the bed wasnt on the van. After a bit of back and forth Dreams told us they didn’t know when we would get the bed, best guess was 13 weeks. We had been waiting for a month for delivery as it was. The best idea was go to The Bed Warehouse. 3 week lead time, delivered what they said they would and exceptional customer service. It arrived yesterday and I am over the moon.

Dreams in Stafford were crap when we got our bed years ago. Ordered super king size in store. Cost us a fortune. Delivery blokes just slung it in the bedroom & left me struggling to get the heavy mattress onto the bed.( thought they'd gone to the van for some parts , but they drove off).Had to leave if half propped up til hubby got home to help. The 2 bases have never been fastened together in all these years as fittings not left. Metal headboard knob things that have never assembled right, so left them off now.
I'd never buy off Dreams again.

Massive skills to BestBind at Amerton Farm. A few years ago we had new carpets fitted and due to a stroke of luck we found a lovely luxury remnant for the lounge. We had a fair bit left over which i stuck in the loft. Fastforward to now and I thought that it would be good to get some runners made for in front of the sofas in the lounge so spoke to BestBind who had them "whipped". They look lovely and it only cost £36.

Problem is it now makes the carpet itself look dirty !!

My house is like that too, bits of wood wedged between the bricks and the skirting board was screwed into them
Wooden wall plugs were the way, before masonry drilling became less inconvenient. Around Stafford, the fashion was for large pieces hammered into the vertical gaps between bricks, often made to suit from offcuts just lying around. The more skilled operatives would whittle a 'twist' in the shape to lock it in place more effectively. You can still find bags of wooden wall plugs mass produced in India, but they tend not to be the full brick width that the 'home made' ones usually were. Part of the reason was that the mortar was so fragile that it could just be removed in a very short time, compared to the time required to actually drill a hole back then.

The original Rawl drills required you to physically hammer them whilst slowly rotating the bit by hand - and, also due to the 'delicate' mortar, you then ran the risk of knocking the brick loose before you got anywhere near a decent hole in it.

I have a few old wooden wall plugs, from before they were made of plastic.

The original Rawl plugs were made from a compressed fibrous material, I still have a few, and you could get it in long lengths, so you could cut it to suit the depth of the hole you'd actually made. The original plastic plugs could be got in the same form, then the individual moulded plug became fairly universal.

When I fitted my boiler 31 years ago I used small wood blocks to space between the brick and the plaster board. Boiler has just been replaced and the blocks look like they did when installed.

Went into Stafford Halfords Cycle shop Wednesday to get a bike box to send a sold bike by currier , I heard they will give me one free as they have plenty. the guy behind the pay counter said okay I will get you one, he got up and i hadn't realised he was on crutches, I said don't get up i will ask someone else. No worries her said and off he hobbled. he came back and said I have left it by the bike counter fro you.
Talk about selfless service, whoever you are, top respect mate, top bloke..

I bought a Garmin running watch, second hand a couple of years ago, I lost all the details, model etc! The strap snapped! I looked on line as I thought I'd need to take it in somewhere. Could have ordered online if I had model details, nearest dealer was Manchester. I bodged it, didn't use it for running. The Venerable Mrs Seed had straight away, why don't you take it to Lektrix in Crabbery St? "Don't think he'll deal with them, will be specialist dealership's only!" Not running at present, so taped it up & carried on with it for 6 months. Completely broken I admitted defeat; took it in to the very nice chap in Lektrix. Sorted in a week!!!!! Had loads of straps, but not the specific one I needed, so ordered it !!!! MASSIVE cufflinks to Lektrix! Intendent trader. Used to have a stall in the market.
