Having decided I need to get some exercise and pretty much the only active thing I enjoy apart from masturbating is cycling I have just ordered a new bike.

What are you favourite trails in the local area? Its been a few years since I was last on the chase on a bike so can you recommend some good trails? As I'm just getting back into it I'm thinking trails around 10 - 20 miles although I think it would be interesting to post all of your favourite trails in here for everyone to enjoy :)

One of my favourite has to be the old railway line running from near beaconside, past astonfields and into town and then onto the track again just past castlefields, and all the way up to haughton for a quick pint at the Shropshire Inn :)

What bike have you gone for? Get a good lock so it doesn't end up like mine!

Funnily enough I was looking at bikes today, but I only want a commuter. Had my eye on this, goes into the basket at £183.99 at the min due to a 20% discount. Not sure though, if I use the cycle scheme at college I can get about 30% off but halfords aint part of the scheme.

I'm keen on this. Eight-speed hub gears and drum brakes, everything internal and a chunky chain. I spoke to a bloke in town once who'd had one for a while and was very satisfied with it. The price goes up and down all the time and I'm always too late when it bottoms..

I went for the 2010 GT Avalanche 2.0 Disc. Seems a reasonable mid-range trail bike. I wasn't too interested in rear suspension as you lose a lot of energy there and the only people I know that make a bike to reduce this is GT and its for pro's, not a pot bellied geek like me.

I am going to replace the pads and pedals though as soon as I get it, I have always liked the EBC Green Stuff Hydraulic Brake Pads, they seem to wear longer without losing grip.

This is the first bike I've had with a hydro disc on the rear though, I imagine you have to be pretty careful with it no to crash/trash the rear tyre.

Its a good idea but we're based out in sugnall and almost everyone who works for the company has a van as they are site engineers. Not to mention a 10 mile hike to work in the morning isn't appealing, a 10 mile hike back after a 10 - 12 hour day is less appealing lol

If you're into riding off road then you could check out the forum at chasetrails.co.uk which has regular postings for social paced rides on the chase. The obvious starting point if you don't want to join a group of riders is Follow The Dog starting at Birches Valley. This is an excellent intermediate graded trail - it is graded red but really only because it has a few red graded parts to it so they have to grade the whole trail red. It is set to expand in Easter taking in Phase 2, which looks like it will be seriously challenging.
Unless it is an amazing coincidence, White Ranker contributes to the forum so no doubt he will advise at some stage and probably rides a great deal more (ie at all) than i do at the moment.
I have been looking at a route that takes in the Isabel Trail from Doxey Marshes out to Derrington then across to Bradeley, Hyde Lea (The Crown), then back into town down Thornyfields Lane/Newport Road but haven't done it yet - boy is it cold.

The key to this is to buy around September when the bike companies roll out their new lines. The previous years models then tend to come down in price.

Was going to post in here, but thought a new topic was more appropriate:

Nice wheels!
Mongoose have had something of a resurgence of late. Back in the 80's, at the start of the BMX craze, they were the very bizniz.
Do i detect a latent bike love affair on the dear forum 'o' the Ford?
