Bloody hell!

There's even roadworks on the cycle paths now.

Good news for the Rising Brook area - http://www.staffordshirenewsletter....-in-stafford/story-30063381-detail/story.html

WORK
to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists along the A449 in Rising Brook, Stafford, gets under way this month.

New foot and cycle paths, improved crossing facilities, road junction widening and the introduction of a 20mph limit around the shops at Rising Brook will be carried out over the next two months. The scheme will be completed in March.

The new shared footway and cycleway will link Hesketh Road and Churchill Road by Stafford Manor High School. New foot and cycle paths will link the existing cycle path with Burton Square.

A new pedestrian refuge in the road by the Royal Oak will also make crossing safer and the existing pedestrian crossing will be moved closer to the school.

I haven't read every post on this thread so I don't know if it's already been mentioned but does anyone else find it strange that many marked cycle routes on the footpaths are on the "inside' so that pedestrians walk nearest to traffic while cyclists are furthest away. This probably encourages so many people pushing pushchairs to use the cycle lane.

Fairway is the only one that I've ever noticed that's marked that way round. Are there others?

Ah, I see Silkmore Lane is, too. I've never seen a bike on that one.

I was once this close to collision with a cyclist on that one whilst exiting the Silkmore Lane Co-op.

One for the why-not-use-the-perfectly-good-cycle-lane crowd.

I was thinking more about the ones around the town centre. I don't usually pay that much attention but I noticed the paths on Queensway around Asda & also coming the other way from The Green towards the Riverside Centre. I'm sure there'd be more.

Signed up for this today, try and get secure storage for bikes in my road. I know this is too radical thinking for Stafford Borugh Council and hell would freeze over before they did anything like this, but if I don't try!!!

They have one of these in my sisters road in London and it's ace!! Would help solve the number of cars parking on pavements issue as well!!

Whilst out for a bike ride yesterday I noticed what appears to be new cycle path that runs under Beaconside from the new estate that is to the left when looking out from the barracks to I don't know where. Didn't have time to take a look as we were already running late. Does it go anywhere or is it just for access to that part of the barracks.

This one?

I think you would have to sign a form and get your hair cut before you can use that one.

That is the old (internal) railway bridge, from when the RAF had a rail network on the camp.

Never knew it had a railway. When did that disappear then, do you know?

The last train from the outside world was in December '75, I think. The internal system may have carried on for a bit after the disconnection, not sure how long, if it did.

There may still be the odd rail in place somewhere on the base, but there's been a huge amount of building work in the last few years.
