Decent Takeaway in Stafford

CHRISROW

Hi

We are coming to stay in Stafford in the summer and would like to know which Fish and Chip Shop, Chinese and Indian takeaways that you would recommend.

The plan is to make the holiday as cheap as poss, so even though we are staying right next to Pizza Hut and Frankie and Bennies we can't do that every day.

We will be travelling back from Alton Towers to the Stafford Central Travelodge so we can also pick something up on the way if there is a really good place just out of town although Stafford might be easier.

Hope someone can help

Chris

Indian - Spice Delight (although some have reported dropping standards lately, mine have been fine. Yet to find a better indian takeaway)

No idea on the others, I like the chinese in the spit and sawdust but my brother still orders from peony garden which I don't rate at all. Fish and chips are very subjective, some I hate others rave about, so again no real advice! I suppose Essence of the Orient near Sainsburys does takeaway, and they have a good reputation for chinese.

We use a chinese/japanese delivery called Happy Meeting and their japanese udon noodles are the best.

I prefer Northern Lights Fish Bar on the Stone Road (A34) for our fish and chips.

What a fine choice!

which Fish and Chip Shop
Hmm..tricky one. All I can tell you is where I'd rather go to Chris' Fish Bar (than most places).

I agree with gk on Lotus House, though I've would also recommend Fung's and Goodview

Are Nishads / Dilshads not the best Indians in Stafford? Anyone care to comment on which is the best ready for my meal tonight?

And importantly, which one is "take your own booze" please?

Have to say, Stafford Balti has never let me down. Mmm Tandoori Murgh Massala, quite fancy a ruby myself now.

There is a pizza pasta at alton towers (Katanga Kanyon) and it is eat as much as you want for a set price and I'm sure its around the £7 mark for adults and half that for kids. A very reasonable price for what you get (leave it until late in the day and no need to get tea). The burger king there is crap.
Dilshads opposite cinema (Cinema is £4 each adult or child on a Tuesday), not much to look at but food lovely. There is a fast food van on the car park by the hotel (near B&Q) it's lovely food and good prices. Hope this helps.

Stafford Balti on Mill Bank gets another mention for this as the Coach & Horses is right opposite and allow you to take your drinks across so no need for bottles or cans.

Chrisrow will you be staying at the Travelodge? if so your room is gonna stink a bit after some of the suggestions of local eateries, currently you can get a couple of cheap meals and a bottle of Echo Falls in the Litten Tree for under £10 it's close to Spoons where again the grub although not haute cuisine is edible and the real ales are most satisfactory. Also if the weather is nice when you visit you can dine in the beer garden.........

Scampi & Chips and mushy peas £1.99 recently had the same at the Shirehorse and the standard was about the same only i paid £7.50 there and no way was i going to get a bottle of vino at Litten Tree price........

Which reminds me of the Telegraph's offer of a meal for £1 a few months back (before it went t*ts up and changed hands). I never managed to go and sample the one squid menu,; however a friend recently informed me that it's all Asda Price stuff (**pats arse pocket twice**). I'm quite glad I never had the pleasure!

*NB: I'm not saying Asda Price stuff is shite in general, but you can make a much better meal, for the same price, from scratch.

Agreed, however eating, drinking, socialising whilst out are pleasurable pursuits and if it can be done on the cheap even more so......

Thank you so much for all your replies - wow what a lot of choices and thanks for the pub ideas too. Yep we are staying at the travelodge just booked my £9 a night deals today so have a weeks summer holiday booked for £54! We are coming up from East Sussex, visited for a couple of days last year and the rooms were great for what we wanted. I agree the Indian might stink the room out, so maybe we will look at some of the other options as we managed to get the room so cheap.
Thanks again Rowena
