Hello all:

Favour please?! Most grateful for any help.

I already know what this means - I'm trying to gauge as to how many people in IT related jobs know what this means. Please don't Google it...

Do you know what CPD is? / What does CPD mean to you?

Cheers :)

OK - I'll take that as a no then.

You work / want to work (delete as appropriate) in an IT/Tech related sector. You wanna do a course. What would you stick in Google or what kind of wordage would you be looking for on college/Uni/course provider sites?

CPD = Continual or Continuing Professional Development

CPD = Continuing Professional Development in the Fireservice, but beware! We are usually 10 years behind the times

CPD is also know as Continuous Personal Development. If I get my CeMAP qualification this Friday the FSA recommends that my employer structures at least 50 hours of CPD per year.

CPD has been around for years. Registered professionals normally need to show evidence of CPD to their professional body in order to re-register. Means of collating all of this evidence tends to be in the form of a professional portfolio.

CPD payments replaced long service awards in the Fire Service. Proving we are doing it is worth about £600 a year to a fireman. Unfortunatley the powers that be have seen it as an opportunity to bash those they don't like. The granting of this award has been totally abitrary, with any number of published criteria, that changed regularly, and never really made any sense. You could have predicted who wouldn't get the award just by assessing how unpopular they were with The Management! Queue an already demoralised workforce, even more p*ssed off. Nice one!

Not eligible to apply this year, only those with 5 years fullly qualified status allowed to apply. Next year ... who knows ;)
weird - considering all the tales you have to tell, i assumed you had been in the job since fire was first discovered!

Although he's got the caveman look down to a tee I don't think he's actually prehistoric.

(please, no posts about the inaccuracy of the ages of man and stuff)

A careful review of tales will reveal that all fireservice related ones are relatively recent.

I joined the fireservice in 2000 at the age of 37, one of the oldest ever recruits at the time. I had had a previous career/s in the NHS, the Voluntary Sector, Social Services, and Health Service Research/Quality Assurance. Many of my ramblings predate my fireservice career, and draw on the many years of meeting Stafford's plethora of interesting folk, in pretty varied settings. So not so wierd.
