An old double bed sheet draped over the roof and windows, held in place by the front and rear wipers, will also make for effective frost protection.

And a lot more secure than leaving the car with the engine running, even if you do lock the doors with another key.
I did that before my icy airport early hours run , worked a treat.

I keep getting emails from my insurance reminding that the car isn't covered for theft if car is left running unattended on icy mornings.

I rang the Cannock Vauxhall garage a couple of years ago to find out how much a spare key would be for sons Corsa . (I'd got the 2nd key for it safe in Stafford incase he lost his , but wanted to get him one as a birthday present to keep to hand) .......about £200 because they said they had to actually have the key there with the car and programme it in. (I didn't bother )

Gone are the days when you could go into Halfords and there would be a board full of ignition keys, from which you chose your number. I remember coming out of the Prince one night and getting into my beat up old Mini, to find it had a steering wheel glove, which mine didn't. I'd got into the wrong car !!! ... such was the security back then.

But for that glove, I'd have been playing Grand Theft Auto for real when I drove it home.

My mate once drove home in the wrong mini from a Wolverhampton nightclub. Her dad noticed when he went to move it the next morning, took it back to the carpark and hers was still sitting there.

Used to have a board full of ignition keys in the shoe repairers opposite the Swan hotel in the early 70's as well. When my mini was broken into the coppers said wasn't force entry , they must have had a pile of keys to try. (The good old Krooklok saved it twice , just my 8-track and crash helmet nicked the first time , 2nd time they had nothing to nick as just a hole where the 8 track had been , so they'd just strewn a box of tissues all over the car instead!)

I knew a chap who managed to lock his keys inside his Viva. Luckily, we knew a bloke at the Poly who had the knowledge to get into almost any car, quickly and without damage. Sometimes, this involved odd-shaped bits of wire, but, when we told him it was a Viva, he just got straight up and came with us to the car.

"Don't you need any tools?" - "I've got them with me" - with that, he leaned back on the driver's door, breathed on his hands and pushed the glass down, far enough to lean in and open the door from inside.

Enjoying a drop of red.
You need to have it on the centre stand for that. On the side stand you can end up with a serious injury if it gives way at the wrong time ... errrr .... so I'm told. :urgh::heyhey:

Friend of mine got in the wrong Land Rover and drove it off - using the key to a temperature recorder in the lab. Did realise his mistake and returned it rapidly.

My landlord and his wife got halfway back to Baswich in the wrong Escort, from Burgess's car park - , they turned round and went back - they had just got all their shopping out and were putting it in their real car, when the owner came back and was mystified, when he finally found it, after walking round looking for it for a minute. They were just about to confess, when he spotted it, got in and drove off, none the wiser.

Many car manufacturers have everything they need to be able to let you unlock your car from your phone, as there are plenty of newer cars on the market that have apps now. They won’t all do it though… replacements keys are far too lucrative for dealers.

Nissan tried to charge extra for remote unlock in the US, it went down as well as you’d expect, mind you they also had a really system as their server suck and the car had to be woken up via an SMS message sent by their servers, then it would phone home over 3G

Don't think there's any free parking at Sainsbugs. But you do get your parking charge refunded if you spend a fiver in store.

It’s £1 for all evening weekdays, or the whole day Saturday or Sunday.

Press the card button, press the green tick when prompted, wait for it to dispense two separate pieces of paper so you aren’t missing your voucher.

No idea if they do it for Argos but it’d be ridiculous if they didn’t

Does anyone know, where I can jet wash my car myself, apart from Esso on Foregate, which is out of order.

I have cleaned it myself the old fashion ned sponge and bucket way, but I prefer doing the jet wash.

And not a place where 6 blokes leap forward out & do it for you, my idea of hell.

There was one at the Sandon Road Shell, and Street View still shows it there.
