Stoke on Trent , 6 or 5 towns?

Apparently Arnold Bennet missed out Fenton? 1910 6 towns, after 5?

I'm sure someone will correct me again & call me a dick given half a chance.
Definitely 6 towns but they hadn't been formed into Stoke on Trent until 1919 and Arnold Bennett's Five Towns was published before that.

Stoke on Trent was originally formed of 5 towns in 1910 - Burslem, Stoke, Tunstall, Fenton and Stoke with Wolstanton being added in 1919.

Yes, and Bernard William Jewry wasn't Shane Fenton for many years.

Yes I think you are correct.

I was told Fenton was one of the five by a Stokie friend but upon checking I think,as you say, it should have been Longton. Can't wait to tell her she's wrong now 😂
I'll confess that I did check - I thought one of them was Coventry.

George Elliott wrote about Coventry, but it was renamed Middlemarch. Fenton is supposedly the town that Arnold Bennett forgot about when writing his book, The Five Towns.

*Bennetts own explanation was that, phonetically, ‘Five Towns’ falls more pleasantly on the ear than ‘Six Towns’. Try it.

As for ‘Forgotten Fenton’, Bennett penned a letter in its defence after the Rector, Leonard Trywhitt, publically denounced the town for its immorality from his pulpit in December 1903. Bennett’s letter was published on Boxing Day in the Staffordshire Evening Sentinel.

What this symbol could be at the top right of my android phone......

It looks like a C2 with the 2 being half height, and a small WiFi symbol above the 2.

It appears next to my WiFi signal symbol, and every time it appears it dissapears really quickly and I loose my WiFi connection & have to reconnect. It's only started appearing recently, if I can get a screenshot I'll post it here.

Wi-Fi call preferred on and the SIM for that ability is in sim place 2 (A22 is dual SIM). Basically, no signal from mast so call is made using Wi-Fi.

Thank you, I looked all over the tinterweb and couldn't find the symbol.

I wonder why it makes my WiFi drop out. When it appears my WiFi says it's connected with no internet access.

There are numerous possibilities for the occurence. Best bet is to go into settings and check 'connections' see if you can figure from there. If not go into 'general management' - 'reset' - 'reset network settings' (you will lose any connections with bluetooth linked product, you'll have to link again). Or it could be the common sim problem, pull it out. turn off phone, sim back in and turn on, my Galaxy played up once a month with sim issues. Good luck
