Dressmaker (alterations)

Does anyone know of a reliable dressmaker living locally that can shorten dresses?

I have an evening gown that needs shortening but it is not straightforward, it has a slight train.

I also need it doing within the week.

Magda.
Since leaving the message I spoke to a friend of mine and she knows someone who does alterations so I am seeing her at the weekend.

The ones I am wearing are 5 inches.....and its still miles too long!
Wow.....I would sooo fall flat on my face!
Hope you manage to get it altered.
Before I became old and fat, I alwa ys wore heels like those. Still can, as long as there's no potholes, kerbs or cobbles. :D
So can I.......as long as I don't have to stand, walk or move at all! & how stupidly tall would I be?! 3inches was my limit.
Might have to go find some out & stomp round the house in them for the afternoon :)

I need an excuse to go out for the evening. God knows what i'd wear tho. I'm sure I wouldn't get let in any place wearing my usual atire of hoodie, t-shirt and trousers.

I know what you mean I now only seem to own casual clothes (& 2 going out tops, ones to tight, one to low) but we don't really go anywhere that requires dressing up so its not been a problem till now....

Is there no Christmas party at yours Glam?

No. We don't do things like that! Used to when I was workin in the kitchen, but not on the ward.
In my mind, i'm too young for Evans.
New look have some nice things in, but they can be a bit tarty at times.
I haven't been near Marks & Sparks since I was insulted by one of their assistants about 3yrs ago.
I keep saying i'll go a Juice Comedy night, but even if it's smart casual, I don't have owt.

That's pants, you nursey lot are renowned for partying!
Stafford Evans is weird - none of the other Evans's have the same old lady feel as the Stafford one.
I love New Look, even though I think I'm probably to old for some of their stuff now......bet their advertising department would be mortified if they knew 40yr olds shopped there!
M & S aren't what they used to be....don't even buy my knickers from there anymore.

Drag all the family round for a Christmas knees up & tell them they all have to dress up :)

A lot of them go out, i'm the boring 1. Hate noisy pubs & clubs. Partly deaf so have trouble hearing for a day or two after.
My family are what my Facebook status is about. Said hello to both my sisters in the last few days, they either ignore me, or say they've only come on check sumat, then go off.
I'll stick with thecats, at least they don't ignore me........... :/

Is Magda around and doing alterations?

I have a dress that needs shortening.

If anyone has her phone number I would be most grateful.

Right, I am dredging up this thread, in the hope someone can help.
Has anyone used the alteration services of the blokes in the market? I have a dress (yes me, a dress!) that I need 6" taking off the length (No smut please)
I bought it off Ebay, liked it, changed my mind once I tried it on, so giving it to my daughter in law.
She's a good few inches shorter than me. Hence my query.
