Talking of dropping things from a great height, years ago I often used to fly kites on Yelverton field, often with my lad to help launch them, but usually by myself. As well as having a variety kites, I also had a thing called a "messenger" - a device for carrying something up the kite line (usually a teddy dangling from a parachute), releasing it, and then travelling back down the line for the whole exercise to be repeated once the teddy had been retrieved.

On one occasion, rather than use something on a parachute, we used a flat, polystyrene Lancaster bomber like the one below, hoping it would "fly" rather than just drop. We reinforced it with balsa wood, balanced it with a coin or two sellotaped to the nose and put a paper clip in the tail to attach it the messenger.

Anyway after a few trial flights at ground level, we managed to tease the messenger a couple of times to take the bomber up to kite level where it launched successfully, landing maybe 20 metres away. But on what proved to be its last flight, it somehow caught a breeze, crossed Yelverton field still with some height and eventually landed about 60 metres up Torrington Avenue. It was absolutely amazing - it just kept on going, and going, and going. Unfortunately there was no one there to see it except me and my lad, which on reflection might have been a good thing. I dread to think what might have happened had it met a car coming the other way. The insurance claim would have been interesting - "I was proceeding along Torrington Avenue in a westerly direction when I encountered a Lancaster bomber coming in the opposite direction."

A friend of mine was driving alone over that causeway in the mid-80s, in an old lowlight, sidevalve Morris Minor, at around 3am. As most people do, he glanced sideways when he came to the railings in the middle - and saw an array of coloured lights approaching from the dam end at high speed. He barely had time to wonder what was happening before there was a huge noise, shaking the car, which then immediately ceased to function entirely - no engine, no lights - nothing. It just stopped in the road. Total darkness and silence followed.

Having watched Close Encounters not long before, he was a bit perturbed, though not usually a particularly excitable chap. After a few minutes, when no attempts at abduction had commenced, he decided to risk turning a torch on to see what might have stopped the car functioning - and found his ignition switch in bits on the floor, presumably have been shaken apart by the (equally presumably) RAF jet that had buzzed him.

Because they use occusync tech ( a military communication variable )
They can go way beyond 2 miles ... although theres the legal aspect and the fact you have to get it back as well , i wouldnt advise going further than line of sight.

The Mavic has exclusion zones built on; when we were in Scilly the OH had to keep registering so it wasn't blocked when he tried to fly; can't be too difficult to do the same here.

You are supposed to give chase at that point

they already are built in ... try arming the rotors near stafford prison and it wont take off at all. its classed as a no fly zone and cannot be unrestricted.
when im flying on the common i have to tick a few boxes that i have permission to fly in a class D area ( possibly due to the local glider club and MOD ) and also that i have permission to fly on that land.
