As if there weren't enough hazards over the chase, we now have segways zooming about.

This was not in a quiet area either. They were hurtling along at 15mph or so down the paths by Fairoak Pools. This is completely inappropriate given all the kids, dogs, prams and people running about.
These should really be in a controlled environment, to be honest… like on the Go Ape grounds within the Chase if that’s a thing
Boards… honestly skateboarding in a busy area is just a bad idea in general, never mind with an electric board. They’re very momentum based and not the easiest things to do an on-the-spot brake with either, riding them round the Chase is damn stupid.
Regarding electric scooters… the rental scheme really has given them a terrible reputation (and led to a lot of people getting into bad habits). People left them wherever, let kids ride them after authorising the account with the parent’s details, etc. However there are also people who use them without being a menace to society too... One of my staff uses one as his method of transportation to and from work because for various medical reasons he can’t ride a bike and walking is out of the question for the same reason.
People will be twats whatever you do though really, I remember kids riding unpowered scooters weaving through traffic around by my secondary school back down south.
A mild hum would probably go a long way to making them safer, but also I suspect not making them illegal in public might actually help a bunch too - the folk using them are disproportionately those with no care for the rules, and there’s no education on appropriate use. If they were permitted, there’d be campaigns on safe use and people wouldn’t be nearly as problematic with them when there’s loads of others using them sensibly I bet. And, y’know, the hum could be introduced…
Yet another example of banning things not really working for the benefit of everyone compared to legalising and putting some standards against things.
