Quite like to sit by the Fire with the family playing a board game. We have had varying success, from happy times to almost a state of war.
The family favourite at the moment is Logo, it appeals to a good age range and is easy enough for the youngest to get involved in with few fall outs.
Pass the bomb is also a firm favourite and easily adaptable to simplify
Would love to hear what other family board games you have had success with or would recommend.

My all time favourite used to be "Careers" but we tend not to play board games anymore.

Unless we are at our place in Spain then we love to sit on the balcony in the evening playing either Scrabble or Rumminkub.

What age ranges ?

Me and mine get a lot of milage out of things like Settlers of Catan, King of Tokyo, Zombies! More effort so less frequently played are Arkham Horror and Super Dungeon Explore.

Recently we have been playing a bit of Talisman on tablets and that seems fairly fun, we tend to test using computer variants before investing in the real deal (But that doesn't stop our friends buying more for us for christmas so they can come round and play!).

It all depends on what tastes you run to.

Youngster friendly I'd heartily recommend a game called Dix-it .... its based around giving clues based around the art cards. Simple and fast.

For a simple bluffing game running at 10-15 mintues play time a round I'd recommend Coup.

............... we have too many boardgames in the house, don't make me choose!

I second Game of Life, what a board game that was/is, actually, that's what probably put me off having kids and getting married, who needs it!

Also, and if it counts, Guess Who, always positive way to point out someone's faults, to win a game.

Oh and Cluedo!

I'd recommend Linkee as a more recent game; good simple fun, very competitive and a decent life to it. At the other end of the spectrum Risk still gets played here; then we really have to hide the sharp implements.

I have a copy of Linkee on my coffee table but not got round to playing it, will give it a go.

We're fans of Carcassone in this house, but I co-run a boardgame club in Brum, so again, lots of games to choose from in the house - some of the lego games are good too.

I can't wait for Baby Wearn to be a bit older so we can have family boardgame time...

Can't remember much beyond ludo & cluedo, there were a couple of others now beyond recall. There was also lotto which had been housey-housey and late became bingo, not sure if you'd count that as a board game.

Ooh lots of ideas, mine are aged 8, 9 and 12. As a child I hated buckaroo and operation. We have played monopoly recently but I discovered I had raised 3 perspective bank robbers.

Monopoly brings out the loony in everyone I think. I love Cluedo really makes you want to murder the family.

I know somebody that got a police caution as a result of a 'game' of Monopoly.

But it does remind me, bizarrely, of my dad and uncle who in the 50's had months of a game of monopoly whilst traveling to Singapore (and they still argue about).

Haba's Animal upon Animal is a good silly stacking game that most can play, or Ntropy, which is a stick balancing game. Incan Gold for those who can add up and want to do a bit of gambling. Shave a Sheep Lego game is simple and fun. Another vote for Carcassonne. Will have a think on more :)
