I cant find the bloody place but near to my old house in woolwich they renovated a dilpidated georgian hospital complex and each 1/2 bed flat goes for about 350,000 to 500,000....and people thought that was an eyesore and tried to rip it down burn it down etc... Just goes to show if a nice developer gets hold of something and they have the brains and balls it can be done
The Box Factory in Marston Road/Wogan Street is an excellent example of what could be done with a basically sound structure - if the willpower is there..

Have you noticed the water pressure is down on coton fields, they have two hoses running from a stand pipe on corporation st.
Tried having a shower earlier, my usual power shower with full body massage was replaced with what felt like a wet dog giving its self a good shake above my head.

I understand the BRC-related fine was a whopping £200.

It always makes me so very sad to see beautiful old buildings that have been allowed to fall into disrepair. And like tek my first thought was " ahh so if it burns down they can build what they want".
The hospital used to be a great building, some of the ironwork was superb. The developers just wanted the land though, not the buildings, hence the destruction that has been allowed to happen. I'm sure a council could enforce a minimum upkeep order of some kind, to force these developers not to leave it to be destroyed, but for reasons of their own they always seem unwilling to do so.

I was showing my GF some of the pictures from the Staffords past thread, and she couldn't believe how nice the gaol square end of town looked just 40 years ago. I wonder what else we shall be mourning the loss of in another 40?

There was talk of unpaid security bills and then ruffians from oop north scavenging the site for anything of value to make up losses
I'm sure the 28dayslater site that age'd parent posted mentions them seeing people ripping the pipework out of walls etc. May not be on that particular thread though, they did a few reccys to Stafford.

It's still smouldering. Loads of smoke still rising from that area and the police seem to have come out from their lair to make themselves visible around the general area.

I could say a lot, about how this might have been on peoples mind for a long time, the amount of times I have had to go there in a Fire Engine on Blue Lights recently, the absence of sufficiant security on site, and my feelings on Sir Fed (Pritchard) , etc',etc'; but for once if my life, I am going to stay stum. (Well that's a refreshing change! Unbelievable, but a refreshing change!Ed)

all the above is a personal opinion, any comments/suggestions/inne-undo should be disregarded as utterings of an ill man, deperate to get back to operational firefighting!

You knows it
I live about 1/4 mile from St George's and yesterday morning my car was covered in ash. I walked past there this morning and the fire service were there as well as Mr Pritchard (owner) himself. The grand old building was still smoldering on the right side and the fire service were still there hosing water into the third floor windows.

There has been a fire there before which is why it has no roof. The building is now unfortunately in a serious state of disrepair. A disgrace really considering the size and history of the building plus the fact it is right in the middle of Stafford. A disgrace also that it has been shut for 17 years (?) and it has been allowed to become so derilict. It must be sad for the people that used to work there to see it in this condition.

Obviously it can't just be knocked down as it is a listed building which is nearly 200 years old. It now seems to be a target for 'urban explorers' and pikeys who have stripped it bare.

It will be interesting to see what or who caused the fire.

I am prepared to predict that it will be knocked down - when it has 'unfortunately' become 'unsafe' enough to 'justify' the 'necessary' action...
