Hi

I am after a French language tutor. In Stafford area and available on weekday daytimes ideally. I have little experience but have some work in France coming up in the near future so would like to feel a little more prepared!

Any recommendations?

Thanks

You could always ask at the college? They must have foreign language students that need a little bit of help from time to time? Whether or not they will divulge the information is anyones guess. But you could always ask for your details to be passed on to someone?

Bonjour Whereschris, nous avous pleine de classes Francais. These are listed in our Adult & Community Guide and are mostly offered in the evening. French classes are offered at all sorts of levels and the emphasis is on conversational/functional skills, rather than working towards a qualification. There are no exams involved. The Spring term courses are underway but it is sometimes possible to join an Adult & Community class mid-way through the term where spaces exist - it is worth asking in the Enrolment Centre if you would like to do that. Next term's classes begin in the second week of April. For details about any of these courses, call 01785 275607. Prospectuses are usually available in local libraries or call in to the Enrolment Centre, opposite our main Reception in Earl Street.

Do you do kids language courses?

Primary schools in most countries begin teaching a second language whereas in this country kids don't get that until the age of 11/12 I really struggled with French at school and wanted to give my kids a bit of a head start with it. Reaserch suggests that the young a child is when introducting a new language the easier it will be for them to pick it up.

Hi Bob
We do offer some really good Junior College courses for children aged 6-16. There are Junior College courses in art, cookery and guitar. Most of these run on Saturday mornings, with one of the cookery clubs running after school on Wednesdays. I thought I remembered seeing a Spanish Club listed previously but it is not in the current prospectus. I called the department to find out about that. Evidently it was offered a few times but unfortunately never actually ran because there just wan't enough interest in it. If you have children remotely interested in cookery, check-out the cookery club. I have been there when the children are cooking and they make some incredibly advanced things from quite an early age. It always smells wonderful.
The Junior College courses are listed in the Adult & Community Guide, as per above. This term's classes got underway in January, most of next term's start on 20 April.

Why didn't we think of that?
We also could try again with Spanish, teaching flamenco guitar entirely in Spanish.
I was wondering about the Art Club - maybe an Australian makeover in homage to Rolf Harris?

You may need to control the number of retakes that people are allowed..

I think if we added that to our Junior College provision, we might get the wrong kind of publicity. I may be worrying unduly, but...I'm just not sure it would be universally well-received.
