Fun Day Out in Staffordshire Ideas!

Hello!

I need some ideas lovely people!

At the end of May my Father-in-Law is getting married to his betrothed.

I am not invited.

(I'm leaving it at that - I've been very good and not added any insults what-so-ever - aren't you proud?!)

So I would like to plan a really nice day out for me and my Mother-in-law (who also hasn't been invited)

I want to do something awesome - something different that will keep us occupied the whole day!

My Mother-in-Law is understandably quite upset about the whole thing so I'd like to treat her and keep her mind off it all!

Any ideas?

Thankyou

What kind of thing do you enjoy doing?

Anything!

A meal involved somewhere would be fab -

Looking to try anything new really -

Although preferably nothing tooooo sporty or strenuous as the MIL has had some minor back problems in the past!

Ok, what have you done already?

Sorry! Am I not being very helpful!?

I'm from Stafford so have been to most places!

Ideas I have had involve things like possibly Go Ape (would have to check with MIL)

Maybe a day out at Shugborough?

Things like that - either an activity then a meal or a whole day out someplace!

Don't really want to go shopping as its boring lol!

You could go and feed 2p pieces to the polyphons at the Yew Tree at Cauldon. Feed the ducks, geese, swans and eat ice cream at Rocester lakes on the way.

Telford. Lots of decent shops, some nice restaurants, a cinema, ice skating all within spitting distance of each other.

If you have access to a working car and the weather is decent then a day out in the Peak District with lunch at the Cat & Fiddle and maybe a show at Buxton Opera House in the evening if anything decent is on.

National Memorial Arboretum.

Trentham Gardens.

Train ride to Brum and visit the Sea-life Centre and Botanical Gardens, plus loads of shops and restaurants.

A day's gliding off the Long Mynd would take her mind off things:

Followed by a pub meal in Church Stretton maybe.

Or an afternoon trip to Wollerton Old Hall Gardens - in which you can wander happily for a couple of hours if you're at all keen on horticultural loveliness, buy some fine and unusual plants from their nursery, and take lunch or tea or both in the pretty tea garden:

Or if you don't mind a drive west for just over an hour, Powis Castle for splendid views and spectacular gardens, a potter through Clive of India's keyhole and a nice National Trust lunch. Or tea. Or both.

Or if you really want to forget about stuff for the entire day, drive west for two hours and take her to the Centre for Alternative Technology at Machynlleth, where you can wander to your heart's content in a suntrap in the hills, playing with sustainable technology, learning how to save the world, admiring the flowers in the gardens and having a lovely organic veggie meal in the sunshine. Or cake. And you get to ride up and down in a water-powered funicular railway, which is not something you see every day.

Or you could hire a canal boat for the day from somewhere like Norbury Wharf, take a picnic and a bottle of wine and potter along very slowly for a few hours, or cruise to one of many delightful pubs along the cut, have chicken in a basket and a pint of beer and cruise back again.

Or spend a day pony trekking.

There's a place in Hay on Wye or thereabouts that takes people on walks with a small flock of sheep. That'd be different. I believe pubs are involved as well, but don't know whether they do a single day sheepy wander.

Or get on a train and head to Glasgow for the day. Splendid museums, galleries, eateries, Sauchiehall Street, friendly people.

That would Defo get my vote

Agreed on Brum - great place for a day out. You can even take a canal trip there, and don't forget to visit the Hoard.

This is assuming it is now safe for non-Muslims...
