Future of the Kingston Centre.

As a parent of a child at St Leonards Primary we were informed today that there are initial proposals to move the school from the current location on St Leonard's Avenue to a larger site on the grounds of the Kingston Centre.

I think the council recognise that with the massive influx of housing in the area that they need to do something to cope with the likely rise in pupil numbers....

I do hope the nicest building in Stafford survives the change.

Does the proposal mention if it might use the current buildings at Kingston, or build anew ? It would be interesting if it were to go back to being a school. However I had a look at St Leonard's Primary on Google Earth and that is quite a building, much larger than I thought it was.

Enjoying a drop of red.
It would make sense as there isn't really any scope for enlarging the existing school. It is a nice building though so one would hope it could be put to a useful purpose and not go the way of the Chetwynd Centre.

It's probably listed, poorly insulated...I can't see there being a big queue wanting to take it on.

I believe the plans for the Kingston center are reusing it, not knocking it down - I think the recent use as a testing / vaccination center has proved it's fine in it's current condition and would be a lot easier to use and has a lot of life left in it

The vaccinations are taking place in the newest building on the side near the field, i'm not sure where the testing takes place. I agree it would make sense just to revert back to use as a school.

I'd suggest getting a test to find out where it is......
Come and see me on Sunday and all next week.
GOV and SCC recommendation is twice a week if you're out and about

Rather than doing my own when I'm volunteering on Sunday maybe I'll pop over to the other side then!

The original school part is not currently used and needs a good lick of paint! Vaccines are in the conference building which was always the new bit to me but the covid testing is at the front new new bit. Hope that makes sense?

Yes it took me back in time when i went for the jab today. The new bit to me is where the school gym previously was.

Yep the new building is where a black wooden gym was and next door to the gym toward Fairway there were a couple of prefabricated classrooms when I was there (58 to 63) and then another wooden classroom where they taught art. Behind that gardening was taught, where I learned the delicate art of killing plants, much to the disgust of Chalky White, the teacher for that subject. Green fingers I just don't have ... (except for mutant fast growing trees I get given in the pub.)

Not sure if this will be better or worse for Fairway residents than previous proposals for new housing!

Will certainly accelerate proposals for residents parking bays

To be honest, there always appears to be plenty of space around the Kingston Centre on the roads outside the place.

Let's be honest residents on St Leonard's Avenue and surrounding streets put up with a lot worse than what will be happening at the Kingston Centre...

Not sure I agree with that, between people starting to park on the bridge to walk into town, over 400 new houses and the access to the Kingston not being wide enough for two vehicles to pass, I can see hold ups increasing.
