Enjoying a drop of red.
Finished the scarifying today in time to take 23 bag loads of the stuff to the tip. Must say the grass looks a lot better for it, especially as it didn't get done last year as the tip was shut due to the current excitement.

I’m running out of things to plant. Resisting the urge to start the April’s seeds yet.

We got up in the sunshine this morning and did some 'litter picking'...

Despite already taking 5 tonnes of rubbish to the tip the rain always uncovers a bit more!

The delightful people who lived her before us thought smashing glass bottles, crockery, car parts and general crap in the garden then trying to burn it was an acceptable method of disposal...

One part cleared and ready for summer bulbs to go in!

There is a lovely house in the village of Moddershall, that has to my knowledge at least 2 vehicles buried in the garden. 1 was a mid blue Austin van, buried around 1975, to help make a solid base so one of my brothers could erect a 20ft shed for work purposes. Other was a grey Standard 8 or 10, buried around the same time for similar reasons.

The weirdest thing we found was a washing basket full of chicken bones, muscle shells and egg shells?

WTF?

Most exciting thing was a Pokémon card and a couple of old coins!

Why on earth us girls growing up, weren't maimed or worse I have no answer. Long n winded, but here goes.
Part of our garden used belong to Ochre Mill, in Lower Moddershall. When that was knocked down, there were big open pits where the foundations of the mill had been removed. No1 big brother had an old van he wanted get rid of, so had the very bright idea of burying it at one end of the garden in one of the pits, and covering it with tons n tons of hardcore. Once flattened, it was a massive area where we could park cars. No2 brother decided put a shed on the space.
Cars, vans and god knows what were buried over the years.
Main part of the garden was beautiful, safe. But we had keep away from the other bit.

Thought this might be more suited to the gardening thread.

Monty says:

Plant carrots and parsnips outside.
Sow courgettes and keep on the windowsill.
Prune most types of hydrangeas
Plant hedging.

The garden here has copious quantities of calcium carbonate and edible plants and it really 'should' be plagued with slugs and snails, but there is a noticeable lack of damage from them.

Speaking to a gardener about 300 yards away, he complained about the amount of mollusc damage that he gets.

I do find empty shells, but a living mollusc has been a rare find for many years now.

I assume that this is down to the unstinting efforts of the resident Thrushes.

They make no demands on the more official feeding arrangements, as other do, but seem to be totally self-sufficient, in a symbiotic manner.

They do spend a lot of time shouting from the electricity pole, but I am prepared to put up with the noise in a spirit of reciprocation.
