Strawberry plants arrived from my inlaws. Absolutely crawling with aphids. Hopefully the shower with soapy water i gave them has done the trick. They looked 'clean' when I'd done with non visible left, if you'll pardon the expression :haw:
I planted my tomatoes yesterday, I am hoping the slugs don't get to them...
Copper tape but make sure you complete the circuit, egg shells, a beer trap and epsom salts are a few things that I've heard are slug deterrents.

Get some thrushes.

Mine just amble around all day, chewing - and I never see a live snail or slug.
I've not seen one for about a year now sadly. I've managed to attract a blackbird to this new garden, he's having a go with our slugs and snails but could do with reinforcements. We are so far keeping them off the important stuff but they are legion and a bit of a slimy shock when you pick something up and get a handful of divorced snail lol. We are so far sending a lot by air over to the green space over the back fence. One of these days a dog walker is going to be surprised.

Has anyone noticed a distinct lack of bees around? My strawberries are usually swarming with them but this year just an odd bumble bee :(

Pottering in the garden today on my day off, so far Ive seen 2 of the biggest spiders in the world which seem to be living by the back door, and a large moth that thinks it's a hummingbird going from flower to flower.

Anyhow, today's gardening question.... A few months ago I bought a potted hydrangea , I've planted it out in the garden and it's produced lots of flowers, but it's very short & stubby. Would removing the flowers now help it to grow larger? My existing hydrangea hasn't flowered yet, and I always leave the flowers even when they've died & don't remove them till spring.
