Gigs at Bingley Hall.

This is my first post- I'm an ex-Staffordian, having been born and bred in the town.

I recently read the tour diaries of a musician who played in David Bowie's band, and was surprised to see the tour stopped off at Bingley Hall. Not too long after I read that The Rolling Stones also played Stafford at roughly the same time.

I was born in the late 70s, so Bingley Hall's time as a rock venue passed me by- in my mind it's always been assocaited with livestock or antiques. It's been great to discover that the County Showground once played host to the likes of Pink Floyd, Abba and Bruce Springteen.

I'm curious to know more about what went on there, so does anyone on this forum has any memories of attenting gigs there that they'd like to share?

Many thanks is advance!

1983. Over one week a number of coaches turned up at Bingley Hall, Stafford, looking for the Great British Beer Festival. Unfortunately that event was taking place in Bingley Hall Birmingham. Gigs? Sorry no information.

Saw the Stones there, very disappointing, shite sound quality, left before the end. Also saw Yes supported by Donovan, managed to get ourselves backstage after the gig and the girl I was with got mullered and puked over Rick Wakeman. My mate who later turned pro session drummer backing Alvin Stardust among others nicked two pairs of drumsticks.

I saw 10cc there.

This was in the day where you bought a ticket and you saw the band in a few weeks time.

Not like now where it's a year in advance.

Those were the days...

I went to see Thin Lizzy and was so appalled by the 'sound' that I swore to never go again - I did semi-relent for ZZ Top, we parked in the field at the back and had a picnic - and much better sound quality, too.

I saw Rainbow, Whitesnake, Rush (twice), Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Police at Bingley Hall. Think there were others but I can't remember at the moment.

Enjoying a drop of red.
I think Davy boy would prefer visiting the cattle shows as no doubt the smell of all the animal excrement would remind him of home, aka his old ford transit.......
What a wicked thing to say.

And very insulting to the cattle.
