Good Alternative to MSE Anti-virus ?

MSE keeps giving me a message that my PC is 'potentially un-protected' as the latest updates haven't been installed. (Got it on auto-update , but that doesn't appear to have been working).
I got the same message about a month ago and it let me install new updates that time,

Have tried several times today, but it is sticking on 'searching' on 'Virus and Spyware updating'.

Are there any other recommended free anti-virus programs which I could run alongside my Malwarebytes instead, or should I persevere trying to get the MSE to load ?

Thanks for the link .

Panda wouldn't work with my laptop alongside Malwarebytes .

Did use another one for ages before changing to MSE, as advised on this forum, but can't remember which one it was (Could have been Avast or AVG )
I have Panda and Malwarebytes on all our home and work computers. Works no problem. AVG and Avast work fine with Mbytes as well.

Sons laptop at the time , which was the same model as mine, worked fine with the Panda that came as part of the package. Mine worked ok with just the Panda installed, just Malwarebytes, but not together (Sent 2 back as faulty , then realised on the last replacement laptop that it was the Anti-virus / Malwarebytes causing the problem! )

Will try AVG and Avast. Do I un-install the MSE before attempting to download another one , or leave the un-installing bit until I know it's protected ?

Yes, don't try to run two a/vs at the same time.

Just re-tried MSE again, and a completely different screeen loaded updates straight away and now running a scan. :raise: :strange: . (Might have been Virgin going too slow earlier on .......:?: ) . Will see how it goes, but son just reminded me it was AVG last time we had, so will try Avast if any more probs.

I'm running MSE and Malwarebytes with no problems.

This last attempt updated straight away, so weird.... will stick with MSE for now . A different screen came up this time..... reminds me of when we first got a desk top with Norton installed . Got a message from what looked like Norton that time to say that I wasn't properly protected, so 'Click on here to rectify' BANG! . WMR went to save my data before fixing the machine and nothing at all left to save ! Completely blank. So was very wary this time and didn't click on 'click here to solve the problem'.

Ran a Malwarebytes and it didn't show anything , then this next attempt worked so now rather suspicious of the pages that came up earlier :hmm:.

The problem is (in my opinion) yet AGAIN virgin media! We've had nothing but trouble again today and I also struggled to get MSE to update. The forum is working okay this time around but I've also had problems with the Apple servers trying to download a full iOS, and my web hosting company trying to make website alterations.

I wouldn't over panic about your MSE yet as I genuinely think it's down to VM and nothing more.

Thanks, Feel better knowing you also had problems updating it @wmrcomputers . ( Well, not happy you had problems, but glad not just me ;) ) Just very wary after falling for the Norton virus trick a few years ago
