It features in Arthur & George by Julian Barnes as the residence of Captain Anson, Chief Constable of Staffordshire - Conan Doyle has a meeting with him there re the Edaji case.

One assumes this is based on real events.

He did live there, and it's not far from Great Wyrley, which would have been in Staffordshire in those days, of course, if it isn't still...

I wonder if they had many lock-ins at the White Lion then...? Or just a lock-up?

I am almost from said Wyrley area (next village) I know a fair bit about The Wyrley Ripper and the Wyrley Gang. as I went to school in Great Wyrley we studied it in history. It's a damn shame, I've heard, non of the filming took place in the actual village. The church and vicarage are still very much there.

May well be judgement day today, just been passed and there's a fella up a crane at the back of the building.

Probably looking at how the rest of the oldish extension can be removed, without damaging the great Green Hall?

Nick Liddell, managing director at GR8Space has said it'll be finished summer 2016!

Hope they have the funds to make it look like a little (or big!) Stafford treasure.

I pass it most days, I don't mind the mix of old and new - and I'm very impressed with the 'new' building that matches - It's just nice to see it being used and being developed, as opposed to looking sad and empty.

I must admit, I'm not really looking forward to the extra strain my doctors will be under, but that's a tiny niggle.
