What are the responsibilities of the groom's mother and father on the big day?

My son is getting married and I want to know what is expected so I don't make a complete ass of myself!

I have a thread about this somewhere as my son is also getting married this summer....essentialy there seems to be nothing to do other than not get drunk & start fights! ;)

Start by drinking WAY too much, WAY too early, then see where the mood takes you.

Forget small talk, try and initiate a proper conversation - 'Politics' is probably a good topic to kick off with.

A discussion about whether or not she is actually good enough for him could liven things up a bit, if it goes too quiet.

There is a wedding coming up that I am torn between wishing I was a fly on the wall and wanting to be out of the country while it happens. The wedding is of friends of my Brother and Sister in law, my brother is best man and my niece is a bridesmaid. They know my parents too so they are attending as well. You all know what has happened with my brothers marriage so things will be tense anyway with both him and my s-I-l in attendance, throw in my parents and it gets slightly more awkward, then to rub salt in they have now invited my brothers new squeeze, who is a complete bitch and my Mum has refused to meet. It's going to be a disaster!
