Guildhall closure?

I don't see how that will work as I thought residential needed natural light?
Demolish and rebuild. When someone I know was at a meeting that first discussed the purchase of the guildhall, the plan was to buy, demolish and rebuild with a focus on residential but with also a small number of amenities. That may have changed recently as the person is no longer part of that planning group.

I think it would be much nicer if it was built open like a street with some greenery. Less shops but make it a more pleasant space. No money in that and no creative thinking on the council so I have almost zero hope of anything improving :(

The Borough Council seem to have two primary targets, reducing the size of the 'spread out' shopping area and increasing numbers (of people) in the town centre.

One, they recognise that the previous Council spread the shopping area over too great a part of the town centre. The focus now, for shops, seems to be concentrate on the area from Market Square to Riverside. Therefore, I expect to see shops retained only in the part of the Guildhall Centre closest to Market Square.

Two, the Council knows that numbers travelling into the town centre has fallen significantly in recent years. Part of the solution is to have more people living in the town centre, so I expect housing to form a significant part of the new Guildhall Centre.

That said, there is still the market to factor in, as well as the new 'food hall'(?) in the old Co-op.

Whilst completely ignoring the elephant in the room

That almost 50% of occupied retail or service sector premises are POC

Even here, in the Deep South, they speak in awe of Alliance Street as the solution to all traffic flow issues. Coupled with all those children gamboling in the street, playing hide and seek around all the cars parked on pavements, whilst hordes of disabled people, who have decided that Staffords traffic problems mean their disabilities have miraculously been overcome, cycle, walk or even jog-on.
