Running theory is now they didn’t renew the leases with the tenants, as you can’t properly evict them right now anyway.

Is Space Station the unit that sits behind the Calendar Club?

No, outside where Pelo hairdressers was. They've not had much luck with properties

Pretty sure the entertainer was a shop called the hub selling gadgets, then became carbon menswear, before laying empty for probably around 5 years before the entertainer took over.

Store 21 used to be index , before becoming the entrance to the gym. Was a very dark corner iirc, comtel showroom used to be directly opposite, before becoming ntl, then druckers. Then iirc, some local cafe moved in before closing and been left empty since

You are right. I am getting mixed up between carbon and store 21. It was carbon that I was thinking of. Thanks

Interesting.....it's finally been listed to their website. At the moment it's being listed as Retail and read what you will into '
a strategic and mindful asset management programme.'

The Guildhall Shopping Centre in Stafford comprises 111,601 sq ft of retail accommodation at the heart of the town centre. Acquired in May 2021, the asset provides a significant opportunity to revitalise Stafford town centre through a strategic and mindful asset management programme.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Mindful for the character of the town? Mindful of the fact that the Guildhall had always been an opportunity wasted? Mindful of the huge profit they want to make of it?

I asked them in the Card Factory yesterday if they were closing , as when I was paying for my purchases I was told to help myself to up 3 items off the chocolate display near to the till for free. (Of course I got 3 and came back chuffed with my freebies).
Cashier said "No, we aren't closing......just been told to get rid of them as it's all end of line and it will make more space".......

Quite eery walking through the almost deserted guildhall . I'd been hoping to stock up with more books from The Works before they went, but they've already closed.

PDSA had all theirs for 50p a couple of weeks back, a good place to stock up.

There's loads of books, CDs and DVDs in whatever the old HMV space is now. They're on the right as you go in.

But be quick if you want any cos they're closing soon as well.

I thought that unit was all closed up when I walked up there the other day ??
I was walking to see if the clothing shop I've not visited for years was still there. ( Only ever walked past that part when I was on jury service)

It was open last week sometime, I think it was Tuesday but I can't remember when I went in.

I'll have a look next time I'm nearby and let you know.

Both charity shops have been served what the Guildhall calls fair notice, one "to leave by the 22nd" and the other, the end of the month.

They basically released a statement saying we can't have shops inside which may struggle to pay rent. Surely that's every store in this climate though ?

Either way, the gym has had an extension till the end of the year, not much hope for it being here next year though.

The article didn't give me much faith.

I am not anti charity shops, however the Guildhall (in an ideal world) should be providing quality shops not charity shops and pound shops.

I hope the new owners will improve the quality of shops in the Guildhall.
