'Gym & Tonic - Jolly Good Show' sort of thing...

I used Gym & Tonic up to just over two years ago then for a number of reasons my membership ran out and I didn't go again. Now I have some time back to myself and need to get fit I booked in for a chat and went through all the figures. Initially met by a pleasant young chap and asked a number of questions and he quoted me a number of figures and I made my mind up straight away to join. I went away to get the paperwork etc and and even more pleasant young lad came back to do the paperwork with me.
I had my card with me so I paid on the spot. £399 up front is a fixed price for unlimited use for 3 years! I now have a local gym to use when I want and don't have to pay another penny until September 2016. Happy with that and had my induction tonight. The 4 members of staff I've dealt with so far have been great. Pleasant, honest and knowledgeable, no hard sell, good advice and complimentary. I haven't looked into other gym prices properly but am pretty sure that can't be beaten for all the basics. There's more equipment in there since i last went plus lockers, classes, a spin area.

I thought 'literally' now included not being actually 'literally' at all.

P.S. please delete this post, literally...

Making up quotes is a yellow card offence - quite literally

Used as an intensive before a figurative expression

I have no knowledge of gymnasiums other than nakedness and a leaflet through my door...

Gym & Tonic rang every phone in hubbys office in turn today , trying to push their offers. (The numbers follow on from each other so must be working their way through a range of numbers )

They phoned our work yesterday too - I had the misfortune to be the one who answered the call.

i used gym & tonics uttoxeter gym for 2 years and 3 years at the same gym before gym & tonic took over.

...i lost 7 stone in the first 12 months ( i had a good personal trainer ) .
i went from 19 stone right down to 12 stone.
... although i continued to go there , i never felt gym & tonic was as good as the first company ( however the first company went into administration due to bad management and was loosing money hand over fist.)
... noticed gym&tonic never upgraded the equipment in all the time i was there too.

ive started putting weight back on again though, so may be looking for a decent gym in the very near future.

Just had a call from them at home trying to sell their 'last 75 places at £3.19 a week'.

Used to go to 'Gym & Tonic ' when it was down by Matalan. Suited me then as I used to run there and back from home .Went for a year but when my contract was up, I went to renew and they wanted a couple of hundred pounds more than the 'offer price' they were giving new clients. When I said that I would let mine lapse and then re-join at the lower price I was told that I would still have to pay the higher price. Took my custom elsewhere!

Isn't there advertising in the posters "£2.99 per week".......

This is what I hate about them, no transparency in their pricing and lots of catch you out clauses and tie-ins.

I had a leaflet through the door yesterday 'last 75 places £2.99' and then again today 'last 25 places £2.99' as well........

Said on the phone today I could have a free 10 minute trial . Just enough time to set the first machine up :D

The con continues...... how long before they get pulled up by trading standards AGAIN!!

The flyers do actually state £2.99 per week paid monthly but on the back also states you can upgrade for an extra 91p per week, to platinum (unlimited). It also states that it's available to new members only - a ploy that many companies use from gyms to phone companies. If you go in and speak to them they give you a breakdown of all the prices and give you a choice.
My up front deal works out at less than £11 a month for 3 years. It's cheap and cheerful and does for me. look around at other gyms and i think you are looking at £24 - £28 per month for some and double that for some others.

Your deal is a bargain, especially if you go regularly for the 3 years. Trouble with me is I have a track record of signing up, going as often as I can for the first couple of weeks and then......................

Been five times in first 12 days so reaping the benefits in both ways at the moment. Off the bike and in the gym on cold wet nights for a few months now.
