Haughton Christmas lights and the lousy public who assume they can do as they please!

We live in Haughton and to be honest the christmas lights are brilliant! However.....Policing them is another matter! The general public just could not give a damn! 'Steps gardens' is an absolute nightmare to get out of if you live there. 'Station road' becomes a right real pain. The road from Taylor Brothers Bikes (Moat house to Brazenhill lane ) is an absolute chore! Whilst we agree that the idea is a ...Nice one.......Who actually takes responsibility for the dogs running loose and crapping everywhere ..the so called "public" who can chant anything and everything at you if you approach them regarding using "common sense" when it comes to parking on the pathways and to add insult to injury... we are blamed! Then its us for not having enough parking when we actually advertise the lights being on! What ?
I have not authorised the lights being on here and I do not agree with the way it is so called "Policed" ! Utter rubbish to be honest! The local parish council obviously do not care about the way we as locals here in haughton...are treated by folks who come from anywhere and no where ..to see the lights and also...to abuse the locals!
What a absolute farce !
Im sure We are not the only ones who think its a chore! ABout time it was closed down and if not for anything else...health and safety is totally missing! Rubbish left everywhere , dog feces left on path ways ...The chip shop has only added to the issues here! Check the dog bins......More plastic cartons fr fish and chips than dog pooh! The dog bins are over fuland the rubbish is left on the floor....Seriously Haughton....do you really care about your village? Seriously...some of you really don't care do you? No I really don't think so either!

Genuine question, have you lived in Haughton long? Dog mess is a different matter, that's just an irresponsible owner but people have been visiting Haughton to see the lights and donate to charity for years.

Not quite in the spirit that Burt Moore and co intended when the lights tradition was first started.

Whilst it may be a pain for a few weeks of the year please think of the joy it gives to so many people and how much it raises for good causes.

I know not everyone who visits acts in the irresponsible and selfish ways you are describing and surely a little disturbance is worth it for the benefits the lights bring isn't it?

I took my 4 and 6 year old to see the lights on Sunday. I parked behind the shops and made sure that my children did not go onto anyones property to see the lights. We also donated to the chosen charities, as we always do. I can also ensure you that no litter was dropped.

My children love the Christmas lights and it has now become part of a Christmas tradition, as such I'm really sorry that the OP obviously doesn't like us being there.

I appreciate that at busier times the number of visitors could become a pain / a problem / an issue, and therefore I do agree it does need to be policed better, however not this year.

On Sunday there was probably only about 50 (ish) people walking around when we there and no cars were causing an obstruction. Very quiet compared to previous years.

I trust you have fed your views back to your Parish Council.

With respect to those of you who think its all in good faith.....That would be fine if you did not get the abuse from the few that really do spoil it for us here in Haughton.

Yes we have spoken to them and was told and I quote " I am the 45th that has complained about the lights in Haughton. Did not know it was that bad ?We will pass it on the the necessary department." Meaning...its been forgotten already!

Glad you can see the funny side of it. Then again...from your comment.. I am assuming you dont live in the village and so you can make the statements you do because you could not really careless? Hey oh...Perhaps someone with a decent sized dog ..will come and crap on your garden then feel free to vent off on here as you put it!

Yes lived here for 5 years now but every year apart from the last one...was exactly the same. Covid shut it all down and made the village a better place to be at Christmas. This year it was meant to be cancelled but it was decided to just switch on and let the odd one or two mention it on the web..The forum on Facebook was shut down because the locals wanted it to be stopped because of the problems mentioned on here too i add.
Look it's not a 'dig' or a 'winge' about the lights at all. Its just the issue regarding someone taking control over it and making it what it should be...and that is safe for us who actually live here. Feel free to wander around and knock on any of the locals doors and ask the question ...
I look forward to hearing back on here from you regarding the outcome of it all.
Just a thought...try the pubs and the ladies hairdressers first....ask those folks if they are happy with it all? You will get your answer trust me.
Hey oh...It christmas and like some one has already said on here ...I am venting off.
Honestly ....I think i have every right to

Speaking to my friend who is a long time resident of Haughton, he does not share your views at all, quite the opposite, apart from some frustration at the few that leave litter. Regarding the dog mess, he says that's an issue all year round.

I remember when a new housing estate was built not far from Donnington Park and some of the new people who moved in tried to get the track shut down because of the traffic and the noise. They failed because they should have had the sense to think about that rather than move next to a popular race track that had been open since 1931.

The above springs too mind when you say you've lived in Haughton five years...

Personally I think they should close Cannock Chase because it causes increased traffic, bad parking and kids running around being a general nuisance to those of us who live adjacent to it

I lived in Haughton for over 11 years and know most of the locals who are all in favour of the lights including the local businesses.

Having said that I will apologise for the minority who are obviously spoiling the false idyllic lydall that you have bought into.

Perhaps you should speak to the proper locals who had a really great village community spirit before all of the overpriced houses were built with their canine lavatory facilities.

Least I would finally find a use for all my reusable 10p bags 🤔
