"Once again it has been brought to our attention on our Merrivale road surplus table some one decided to pull up in a car and load their boot with everything, including donated tins and money for Hearts and Hands, previous to this another person filled two rucksacks full of the chocolate yoghurts...... REALLY ! Has it never occurred to you that you are stealing from neighbours and friends, our philosophy has always been take what you need, but leave some for others.
If you are desperate for food please email us at admin@heartsandhands.uk and we will try help however official food banks in Stafford with funding (House of Bread, Rising Brook Community Church and also Salvation army can help )
All our tables are run by volunteers and unfortunately our volunteer doesn’t feel comfortable to continue. We are working with them currently to come to an alternative arrangement."

It must be all very dispiriting.

I did think that - it doesn't make it right but is it stealing if it's sat out on the side of the road with a donations sign above it.

I do hope Karma catches up with these 'delightful' people though.

Ever the optimist, I've always hoped the people who do take large amounts of stuff are passing it on in some way.

I'm not sure how much profit you could make from it, but I'm sure someone has thought of something.

A local near me received free food donations throughout lockdown, and sold it for a fiver a bag online.....

We often have people try to take items out of our collection for salvation army at my place at work, and also out of the pet food collection!
We need to get back to zero tolerance of all this petty stuff the jokers in government, I mean party of law and order, choose to ignore... guess it doesn't affect them but when it does all laws will be rewritten and enforced to suit :(

The law is there to protect 'them' from 'us'.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Our local free food has had to install cctv and challenges the Romanians and junkies who don't play fair.

Perhaps amputating their hands when they commit such a crime would be an appropriately measured way forward. Particularly if, as you say, they are Romanians.

There will always be decent people and there will always be people who are not decent - all we can to is try to be the former.

We don't know the circumstances of the offender - their actions could have been fuelled by greed or addiction or desperation. That food may have fed a family for a week or been sold in the pub for a pint, the money could have been hot water and light for a few days or a pack of cigs. In the end does it matter - the purpose of the station is to help people who need it, no it's probably not in the way that was intended but someone has obviously felt like they needed it, there are very few people who would do something like that out of boredom.

Does anyone know how the best way to donate to Hearts and Hands - I'd like to make a contribution to what was removed from the donations - there is a button on the webpage but it doesn't seem to work.
