i got sent this by my mum today and have cast my vote.

given that this company is one fo the most prestigious in the county, has an extensive history in the local heritage of the area and is facing financial uncertainty at the moment, my personal opinion is that this museum deserves all the funding and local support that can be mustered for it.

The shortlist was announced for the Art Fund Prize for Museums and Galleries on Tuesday night – and the Wedgwood Museum was chosen as one of only four museums in the entire country to be in the running for this tremendous award.
For such a tiny team this is a real honour – and what’s more – YOU can help them win and bring some excellent news to Staffordshire!!!
This year for the first time members of the public have the chance to vote online to support the museum they think should be crowned Museum of the Year. You can have your say and help them win the award by voting online at www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/poll/2009/may/05/art-fund-britains-best-museums it only takes a minute to vote and if you want to you can leave comments as to why they should win.
They will be so appreciative and grateful for your support

I don't agree with any of these nominees. But then I work for a gallery which isn't any of these nominees. Sod it, Wedgewood then.

that's basically how i felt lol.. part of me wanted to play devil's advocate and say "sorry, i thought this one was much better than some pottery fan-club in smoke-on-stench" but, frankly, it was the best of a bad bunch.. hell, at least we could all get oatcakes if we took a day trip there :v:

i have to admit that going to the wedgeswood museum has never been a chore for me and ive been more times than i can remember.

apart from the fact that they used to have a great factory shop (which i now appreciate so much more- it must be age!) i could have stood transfixed for hours at the demonstration sections they had when we used to go.

the skill of these crafts people is astounding and i always wanted to have a go at making the cameo moulds. whilst i recognise the potteries has been in decline for decades with the advent of machine produced mass tat from asia, the skills these people have are part of our british heritage, not just as a local export but a national export.

the name wedgewood is revered and rightly we should preserve this through the museum and through continuing to educate our youth that things dont just magically appear on shelves.

Voted!

Was taken there once as a child. Wasn't exactly enthusiastic about the prospect to be fair - a 9 year old boy and his preconceptions of pottery. Once there though, it became quite apparent that it wasn't 'just for girls'. I remember being fascinated by the whole process, especially the kiln. Fire! The attention to detail was also amazing. A proper craft that should be preserved for future generations to observe, learn about, and hopefully get involved with.

Wedgewood leading by 0.3% at this point...
It is indeed. Things are changing rapidly. I was alerted by a friend in Newcastle who has 'stoked' up a last minute campaign - and very effectively too, by the look of things this morning. However, as it says, 'There is a judging panel of seven people; the eighth is the public vote' - so anything can happen in the end.

Glodal email just went round Stafford College asking all to vote for Wedgewood, we're in the lead by about 2% at the minute.

Of course, its not exactly a secure voting system, and unscrupulous people could vote twice. Even thrice....

But it is actually very very dull, are people getting confused with the existing visitor centre? Or perhaps you are all investors with Clarion Capital. We must be told.

The poll has closed and Wedgwood came first with 43.8%, second was close at 41.6% and followed by 8% and 6.5%. There would seem to be 0.1% spoiled votes, but they haven't revealed what was on them! So now it's down to the panel of seven 'great and good' to finalise the actual winner - after the people have spoken. We'll see what happens.
