I was expecting something a bit more upmarket than this. The signage and colour scheme look similar to many 'naff' pubs in other towns. Given the hassle that slaters had with their signage I'm surprised that the bc approved this.

Enjoying a drop of red.

Agreed. Though even if the signage looked ok, the fact that it's a Sky Sports kind of place is a deal-breaker for me.

It may stimulate trade at that end of the town though?

The only other places that show any kind of sports are Yates or the Grapes.....possibly Kenny's?

I wish it every success. I'm glad the building is being used for a use, however whilst I enjoy watching sport I try to avoid pubs that show sport because they're often full of armchair fans and know it alls. I'd much rather drink real ale and watch Stafford Rangers.

Had a look through the windows this afto thought the lighting was a bit odd, green chandeliers.

Two of the bar staff (to be) told me that it was opening on Monday.

I guess a modern interpretation of what someone thinks a Victorian gin palace looked like, with lots of sports tv screens and named after someone who satirised the gin trade.

Nothing wrong at all with the signage which is the decent gold lettered name and cask ales sign. The issue is the odd green which is painted masonry, not a great look

The front now looks way better, guessing the green was some sort of undercoat.

Had a sneak yesterday after being cheeky asking, what a bloody job. Superb decor and grand fireplace in as well. Very nice.
