No probs, any questions feel free to ask. My visits were specifically focussed on hikes and waterfalls, and we only stayed in Ponta Delgada so most eating out was there, but I did a lot of research as after the first visit we realised there was so much we missed. We originally wondered if a week was too long on an island you can drive across in an hour, but after another 2 weeks we'd still not seen everything.

Hikes and waterfalls are right up our street. Did you do the Canyoning you have on your board? We love a bit of that.

No, we never got around to it either visit. We were so playing each day by ear based on weather, as its so changeable and different sides of the island can be completely different. Lagoa do Fogo for example is really often cloudy, so we'd check the webcams in the morning to decide if that was our day! Those webcam were such a help, one day we moved just 15 miles and went from a rainy town to a sunny beach.

Edit: if you pm me your trello account email I'll add you to the other board, not got photos on the second week but details what we did.

I don't have trello, I feel I might need to do it!

Flights don't work to get out there when I want (I'd like to be away for my actual birthday) so might still have to bookend it. I reckon that'll give us about 10 days there.

Only reason it's not public is then Google indexes it too, it has photos on of who I was with at the time and I never share photos of others publicly without permission.

It doesn't have its own parking but you can unload from the road and park about 10 yards away.

The outside area is quite small and on the main road but the beach is only a 50 yard walk away.



Also have a look at Crag view cottage at Embsay near Skipton and Railway cottage at Frosterly.

We've also enjoyed cottages at the Mumbles, Llangynwyd, Luxborough, Gunnerside in the Yorkshire dales, St Dogmaels, Llwyngrwl, Hutton-le-hole, and Rhoscolyn but I can't remember the names of the cottages. Again all recommended villages/areas.

If you search with Vrbo and find somewhere you like contact the owner directly because they often let you book directly with them to avoid the hefty service charge. Also check if the cottage is on other sites who don't charge the service charge.

Final tip Original cottages give you an 8% discount if you have Camra membership. I'm not advocating Camra (cue @Mudgie) here but it costs c£27 but can save you 3 or 4 times that on a cottage and you get £20 worth of vouchers to spend on real ale.

CAMRA membership was 50p a year when I joined in 1973.
Rather than having to remember to pay £7 each year I took a like membership at £70 in 1984.
It's £30 of vouchers now but I've not used any for over a couple of years partly because I'd expect to pay the going rate for my pint at a time pubs are struggling to survive.
Now can we get back to discussing holidays ?

Daughter has gone snow boarding in Austria today. So many hoops to jump through, proof of 2 jabs plus the booster but must be using the travel passport app which is flaky as.. Negative PCR taken in the past 48 thereby ruling out using the NHS one, so that's 100 quid to some company with dodgy origins, special masks, more money, and needing to have proof of all your statuses on you at all times. Comply or be refused entry, literally over a hundred people on one flight turned back.

None of that is an issue, she chose to go so she's followed the process but f*ck me it makes this country's wet wipe following and implementation of the rules for people flying in to this country appear to be somewhat of a joke. No one enforces anything over here no matter what rules are implemented. We might as well not bother.

Be more like Austria is my opinion.


Shall holiday in the UK this year after this tho!

We aren't even contemplating a holiday abroad this year , especially with all the processes needed and hoops to jump through.

Hubby's supposed to be going over to his works in Germany "when it's safer to do so'' , and I was going to go along with him and pay for my own flights etc. , extend his stay after work stuff done and have a mini holiday. I'm looking forwards to meeting all his work colleagues again for a few nights out , but hoping that's put off for as long as possible now until the rates are a hell of a lot lower and less palava getting there and back.

Got 2 weeks to book before end of April , and it'll be in UK. But once hol weeks are ok'd , will hang fire to see what covid rates are and rules in place before booking anywhere and hopefully shoot off somewhere last minute.

No vaccine passports or tests to worry about for me, as I'll be holidaying in the metaverse this year.

I'm a definite for the UK this year after this weeks shananigans. Have also just realised that negative tests will be required before and after the return journey. I'm furious that the one done in the UK has to be done by a private company. F*ck these Tories and their greed. I wouldn't mind daughter having to do the one in the UK if I didn't see all the mask wearing and other rules flouted daily. It's a joke. Prove you are covid free on arrival but rest assured our joke rules will ensure you catch it not long after! 😳😠

I really hope holidays abroad will be feasible this year as I'm sick to the back teeth of the UK.

It didn't look likely we'd be going abroad last year but we managed 10 days in the end, so I'm not giving up hope when the year is only 4 days old.
