Perthshire is beautiful. We stayed near Aberfeldy last year and loved the quiet beautiful countryside and opportunities for bagging munros. We did Ben Lawers on a stunning day walking up through the cloud. Highly recommended

Deuchars cottage is at Kenmore which is the far end of the loch from Ben Lawers.

All nice looking places @Thehooperman .

Just need to see what the boss comes back with , as to which weeks we can choose from and what is still available by then. Lots of the summer weeks look booked up already , and I expect they will start going fast after christmas when people start thinking holidays.

Deuchars Cottage - looks good if we can work in a few other short breaks along the way to break the journey up. Never been to Scotland.

Cross House looks like it went up for sale as well in June. No longer available with the booking sites I've found for it .
Stepps cottage - Axmouth not available either on booking sites .
Deuchars cottage is a great base to explore from and is located near the pebble beach on Loch Tay.

A couple of things to be aware of
It doesn't have its own parking but you can unload from the road and park about 10 yards away.

The outside area is quite small and on the main road but the beach is only a 50 yard walk away.

Also have a look at Crag view cottage at Embsay near Skipton and Railway cottage at Frosterly.

We've also enjoyed cottages at the Mumbles, Llangynwyd, Luxborough, Gunnerside in the Yorkshire dales, St Dogmaels, Llwyngrwl, Hutton-le-hole, and Rhoscolyn but I can't remember the names of the cottages. Again all recommended villages/areas.

If you search with Vrbo and find somewhere you like contact the owner directly because they often let you book directly with them to avoid the hefty service charge. Also check if the cottage is on other sites who don't charge the service charge.

Final tip Original cottages give you an 8% discount if you have Camra membership. I'm not advocating Camra (cue @Mudgie) here but it costs c£27 but can save you 3 or 4 times that on a cottage and you get £20 worth of vouchers to spend on real ale.

Been there! We enjoyed the Crannog Centre but personally preferred Loch Rannoch and around that area, quieter, no boat marinas. Still all v beautiful and highly recommended though!
The Crannog centre wasn't open when we were there because they'd had a fire but we walked past it on a walk to the falls of Acharn.

I booked Kenmore because we were going to the Superbikes at Knockhill (near Dunfermline) but Sturgeon limited the number of fans and despite having bought a ticket didn't get to go.

This year I've booked a cottage at Falkland because I've not really explored that area very much and it's close to Knockhill.

For what it's worth, I like Airbnb for my cottages, I like the way the review system works, you can only review if you've deffo stayed, you only get reviews if you've deffo stayed and if you book flexible cancellation you get 100% no quibble instant refund. I know it works cos I cancelled two properties due to covid and my money came straight back. Just ensure you select the flexible booking option tho and read closely as not all accommodation offers it!

Yes we also went post fire but it was open albeit without the Crannog. They are moving to the other side of the loch for next year and rebuilding the Crannog away from that nasty marina and holiday apartment place were not supportive neighbours apparantly.

The further north the better for me but Perthshire is amazing and we'll deffo be back. We were spoilt with 3 weeks of sunshine in Sept last year which just made the place perfect.

It's my 40th in May and have worked out I can have 2 and a half weeks off if I tie it in with the extra bank holiday. Think it'll probably have to be Europe but will book relatively close to the time; current favourite is Porto - Azores - Lisbon.

Booking opened for our Scilly campsite yesterday, called about 20 times and couldn't get through so just waiting for confirmation from the online form.

The OH has handed his notice in and wants a week off before he starts his new job so a week in the Lakes in January is also likely.
Just a thought, and you may be aware, but if you'll be heading to the Azores from Portugal it's possible to get free onward travel to another island if you didn't want your break on Sao Miguel. Never used it as it's cheaper to fly from the UK usually and I've been going to SM, but just thought I'd throw it out there in case some of the other islands were preferable.

EDIT: If you want I can share my trello boards for Sao Miguel? Not got anything for the other islands though.

Thanks Tek. I didn't realise you could fly direct? I really haven't had too much time to think about it, and part of me wants to leave it til last minute to save disappointment.

You used to be able to go from Manchester with Ryanair, they closed that route 2 years ago IIRC and added new ones from London. Not surprising really, I was paying £50 a time for return flights! Any questions please feel free to ask, although I understand not wanting to get your hopes up with everything going on at the minute.

Thank you, that may change the trip, although I do still fancy doing a few days in Portugal.

@PeterD Just read ...Please Note: Garage parking space is the space on the left. . Access into garage can be slightly restricted by vehicles parked in road.

Can't find it on streetview to check ....is it quite hard to swing around to park in the garage off the road ?

I have a Mercedes GLA. It didn't cause me any problems. It's a 2 car garage and it was fine for me. There is nothing restricting it at all. I guess they have to say that but there isn't any way anything could park on that street to impede access.

Aaah thanks . We only have a small Vauxhall Viva so should be ok then. (What road is it on by the way? Can't see any address anywhere. I was just walking the streetview man down a few streets looking for the garage )

If you don't mind a bit of quiet - there are a couple of pubs but we didn't visit - the place we stayed at on Anglesey was amazing.

Oooh thanks @Lucy . ( Only time we've been in that area was passing through on a train to the midnight ferry from Holyhead many years ago).

Apartment certainly does look amazing. Cemaes Bay looks really nice and as hubby has just said we need to try different places . Nice long daytime walks , as well as a nice village and harbour to wander around , along with a couple of pubs close by for the evening and we are happy.

Looks a real possibility

Got 7 weeks hols to play with next year , with carrying loads over. :D

Was just on trello and thought I'd send the links over.

My 2018 visit:

The planning for my 2019 visit:

I do have a more detailed version of what I actually did in 2019, but it's not quite finished and isn't a public board so you'd need to be added to see it.
