When was in the fire service, got called to a shout at Rugley; bloke up in one of em had had heart problems. Plenty of head scratching from officer & crew, and we were very relived when they called up their crew, and they rescued the poor fella with two blokes in a duplicate buggy! Relief all round, was rope rescue trained, and was flicking through my electrical ops' manual, but huge sigh of relief when we were stood down!

Not my only escape from aerial adventures!:- 7 years after my own personal aerial misfortunes! (Under statement! Ed.) My watch dealt with the infamous Alton Towers accident! as a rope rescue operative, if I'd been on that day would have probably been operative. Not only did I miss being on TV, a couple of my fire fighter colleagues received commendations!!!!!! Cost me a bit that bang on the head! :lolsmash: ...............
Yes I can see the irony! :ohno:

Some years ago, in Cork, someone spotted a bloke on the end of a tower crane jib, in a howling gale, on a Bank Holiday, so they rang the Guards, who arrived and decided that chaps with more experience on ladders might be better, so the Brigade was called. They arrived and found themselves with no independent means of access to a scene which was moving around the sky, two hundred feet up. They decided that two would ascend the crane and assess what was presumed to be a potential suicide situation, there would be little room for much activity, anyway.

After an initial interaction with the 'target', who was clearly contemplating jumping, they realised that he was a deaf-mute. By the purest of flukes, one of the two that ascended was nearing the end of a sign-language course that he was doing with his mother, who was losing her hearing. After a period of 'discussion', the chap relented and, as all three were more than a bit knackered by the whole thing, they were helicoptered off the crane.

Well the Pylon belongs to me. I won it in a bet in the pub (I think !!!) I just haven't been able to collect it yet. However if it's being tidied up that suits me, it'll make access easier .. :buddy:

I saw them over the Spittle Brook end of last week. Now that is a job that requires danger money.
